New report by LBNL on #climate-forcing emissions from plastic. This is really the first definitive study attributing emissions to the plastic chemical industry and it finds about 2.25 GtCO2/yr. This is roughly half of total emissions from the chemical industry and makes up close to 6% of total global emissions. https://lnkd.in/earjZUZY #plasticpollution

In the lead-up to #INC5, Ruth Stringer – our science and policy coordinator –joined Alice Street, Peter Mangesho, Rob Ralston, and Jeremy Greene to discuss why medical products must not be excluded from the Global Plastics Treaty in this comment published by The Lancet Group. The health care sector is a significant contributor to plastic waste, especially for single-use plastics. Including a blanket exemption for the sector in the treaty would hinder research and innovation for alternatives, and prevent purchasers from opting for safer and more sustainable alternatives.
