In business we have a terrible habit of using buzzwords or populist terminology. Work / Life balance is a term that is thrown around as the ultimate utopian state for workers to achieve. Yet despite all of our technical advances work is definitely winning with the lions share of our time and there is very little balance! Haw you ever considered how potential effects of AI on employee well-being can be like double-edged sword? I would consider those as positives: - #Automation of repetitive tasks & freeing up the time to focus on more meaningful things - increased #productivity leading to less workload and potentially less #stress (perhaps to 4 day working week?) - more personalized #learning experience, quick bursts, #skills focused, self paced and very much tailored - #augmentation of analytical capabilities / decision making #process etc.? we can process certain amount of data, with splash of help we can do much more! - there are more of those we can all think about But on the other hand I also tend to think about negatives: - #job displacement and #uncertainty - what if my organization is not catching up in reskilling / upskilling process? - risk of #burnout and techno-stress, overwhelming technology, connectivity everywhere and anywhere... - increased surveillance and privacy concerns, where I think we underestimate and tend not to touch how precise those tools can be in high end monitoring - impact on connect and #creativity so a true human part of the work with creativity, intuition, emotions and all things that we love? There is a need to be honest. How many hours can one do work in sitting position on an average? I do not think that anyone can exceed 10 hrs a day on an average. So, how can anyone work for more than 70 hours a week? Plus questioning spirit (what, why and how) and finishing it up determine the quality which no amount of quantity can mitigate. That's why some people achieve more by working less hours and some achieve less by working more hours.
