Throwback to August 1954 when the first of two YC-130 Hercules prototypes made its first flight from the Lockheed Air Terminal at Burbank, California, to 412th Test Wing, Edwards Air Force Base. Fast forward 70 years to August 2024, when a C-130J Super Hercules from the California Air National Guard took off from the same runway. Over seven decades, the Herc has continually evolved, adapting to the ever-changing needs of our global operators. Today, the C-130J Super Hercules is faster, goes further and carries more, offering unmatched power and enhanced capabilities to air forces around the world. #ReadyForWhatsNext #C130 #C130J #Hercules #Innovation
A great piece of nostalgia, recreating the 70th Anniversary of the YC-130 Test Flight, 23 August 1954, with a current C-130J from Lockheed's Air Terminal in Burbank, California. The 37SQN (RAAF) Association is proud of our Hercules heritage and is proud of our connection with Lockheed Martin in celebrating 70 years of C-130 Hercules legacy.

A long legacy and it will transform into much better, lighter and faster to carry more in more diversity's to land on any land able surfaces.
I just did a talk on the history of Lockheed Georgia from 1941 (when it was the Bell Bomber Plant building B-29’s until 1970 after first flight and turnover of the first C-5A. I was a co-op at Lockheed during the C-5A development (1965-1970).

2 个月My dad was a C-130 pilot for years. This a clip from his obituary. Mr. Collins completed his military career as operations chief of the Air Force Test Centers with the 65-14th at Edwards AFB Proving Grounds for Manned and Unmanned Aerospace Craft. In that capacity, he scheduled, briefed and conducted squadron drone test flights and flew C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. He put in more than eight years flying C-130 space capsule aerial recovery missions at Edwards AFB and in Hawaii. He always said it was his most favorite aircraft ever to fly.
