In a new study published in Clinical Cancer Research, a team led by BC Cancer’s Dr. Poul Sorensen has identified a drug that could prevent the spread of osteosarcoma, the most common childhood bone cancer. “We know how devastating this disease can be if it spreads to the lung, and have long needed effective tools to prevent and treat that. With this drug we might be able to stop lung metastasis and give young people a much better chance at beating this disease,” said Dr. Sorensen, distinguished scientist at BC Cancer, investigator with BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and professor at Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. A research breakthrough could be a game-changer for one of the deadliest cancers. UT Health San Antonio researchers have made a major leap forward, shedding light on how pancreatic cancer develops from normal cells. “Learning how to prevent cancers from happening or figuring out how to stop them in their early stages is potentially more important than treatment itself,” said Pei Wang, PhD.
