Building a tribe of mentors is key to your career growth. Today, I finally got to meet one of mine in person! My first territory as a new SDR was Canada. Dean Guest was one of the first AEs I was lucky enough to work with. The biggest lesson he taught me was what building strong relationships with accounts should look like. He never boxed me out of accounts, but always brought me in. Provided me with open and honest feedback so that I could grow in my role. And answered the hundreds of questions I had as a new rep. The impact AE’s can have on SDR’s career is massive. On the flip side, SDR’s play a key role in a territory’s success. Working together only has upsides that will drive results. Each day in Business Development presents unique challenges and opportunities. Today, during a meeting with my team, something occurred to me that we don't always have centered in our radar. We were having a collaborative meeting to discuss a new tool we're utilizing. Everyone pitched in with great questions and ideas for making the roll-out of the tool as beneficial as possible. What really stood out to me is we were *having fun* while doing it. Business Development representatives have a challenging job, no doubt about it. It's a competitive job where we seek to get 1 percent better every day. But if you're: Being collaborative ?? Open to new ideas ?? Using your resources to sharpen skills ?? Coaching to build strengths ?? Partnering with others to grow ?? And controlling the controllables ?? Then it fosters an environment where you can have a great time doing the job. It may seem cliché but it cannot be overstated how important having a #oneteam mentality can be to your work environment. Equally important, remember to have fun!

I believe if you're a biz owner/leader you're a salesperson. Whether you like it or not. Here's the 6 points I make sure get ticked on nearly every call/meeting I have. Simple q's and structure for the win... #1 - Goals/objectives/goals behind the goals #2 - Challenges/symptoms/problems/pains behind the pain #3 - Urgency/timing/priorities - when does something need to change? #4 - Need - what exactly do they 'think' they need? #5 - Trust - what do they need to 'know' to progress? What else? #6 - Requalify/challenge/clarity/assume nothing/agreed next move? This 6 step framework has served me alright.
