If you’re planning to give money as a gift to your children this Christmas, try my 50/25/25 strategy. This can teach a powerful lesson in money management and financial intelligence. 50% – Spend They can use half to spend on whatever they want. Let them enjoy it! 25% – Invest This teaches them the value of growing their money and develops the habit now so they continue as an adult. 25% – Give They donate to a charity, cause or church. Teach the the importance of generosity and contribution. Using the 50/25/25 framework helps your kids learn how to balance spending, investing, and giving skills that will serve them well in life.

I don't typically give money to charity in the traditional sense. Instead, I prefer to give back to my community in a way that creates long-term impact—by teaching others how to be successful. My focus is on sharing the knowledge, strategies, and tools that have helped me, so others can use them to achieve their own goals and dreams. For me, it's not just about a financial contribution, it's about empowering people to build their own success, break through limitations, and create a lasting positive change for themselves and their communities. I believe that when you help people learn how to be successful, you're giving them the skills they need to change their own lives, and that ripple effect can go far beyond any monetary donation. It's about giving people the opportunity to grow, thrive, and become self-sufficient in achieving their goals. In moving through the series I started late last year, here is Mistake #7 (or learning opportunity?) of “17 Common Mistakes Made by Nonprofits and How to Address Them”: No clear development/campaign budget. As the saying goes, "It takes money to make money." And, spending up to 10% toward your fundraising and/or campaign goal is not unreasonable. It is hard to imagine a for-profit business spending far less than 10% of its revenue dollar goal each year and being successful, right? So, plan to spend money to raise money this year! And, please get your board to watch UnCharitable to remove their own biases around spending money: https://lnkd.in/ePSiEam6 How did your end-of-year fundraising efforts go? Did you get good traction in the last month, the last three days of the year, or even the last day? If not, make a New Year's Resolution to do things differently this year!

Not sure how to talk to your elementary school kids about money management? Here are the basics. ?? Earn - Give them opportunities to make money by doing chores or taking on projects in your home or neighborhood ?? Save - Teach them the importance of putting some of their money into savings ?? Spend - Help them feel the joy of spending money on things they need or want ?? Donate - Support them in finding organizations that support causes close to their heart and show them how to make a donation. Money management is such an important skill. You're doing a great job teaching them the basics.
