Henry VIII did much more during his reign than changing the course of religion and wedding six wives. ?? In a recent The Conversation UK piece Miss Rapha?lle Goyeau from the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing explores how Henry VIII accidentally changed the way we write history. Miss Goyeau explains how two acts passed during England's break from the Catholic Church has altered history as we know it: "These acts were the legal instruments of what is now known as the dissolution of the monasteries. Because monasteries had served various roles throughout history, this dissolution had wide-ranging consequences. Religious buildings slowly entered private hands and as a result, manuscripts, like religious houses, slowly changed hands. The king took several manuscripts for himself and more were taken and hidden. Likely thousands disappeared."
