Brief: Find a way to sell more potato chips. What would you do? The thing that worked best was surprising and a happy accident. It started out as a legal line in small print: Only 4 allowed per customer This sold more bags of chips (crisps to our Brit friends) than the control on the supermarket shelves and in print ads. They then decided to make it the main headline of the ad. It worked even better. More people responded to the ad and more people bought four bags. Whenever you can credibly create scarcity (or there is in fact actual scarcity, think toilet paper rolls during Covid) you will sell more product. #marketing #creativity #sales #conversionrateoptimization

Ever notice that whenever you bring your car into the shop, you're "getting ripped off" - no matter the price or service done? Ever get a bill from a trip to the ER and think, "that's a lot, but thank god I'm okay"? Why is it that we're so skeptical of how we're charged for some services but not others? Yes, there are bad actors that overcharge but I think it goes beyond. I believe it comes down to effective storytelling. Example: $5 dollars for a chocolate bar?! -No way if it's a regular-sized Hershey's. What a rip off! -Wait, you mean this $5 chocolate bar comes from fair-trade, slavery-free labor? Heck yeah, I want all my chocolate to be slavery-free now. (Check out Tony's Chocolonely) I never thought I'd still bring my Rav4 to the dealer 5+ years after purchase. But every time, I'm greeted by a knowledgeable service advisor who can clearly explain what and why things cost what they do. I did a few price comparisons and even competitors acknowledged a fair deal. When choosing an outside consultant or service provider, make sure you feel just as good about their story as biting into a milk chocolate-hazelnut.
