Staying flexible and close to the neighborhood is key – even in crisis. ??? Recently, Jim Wehner shared the history behind the Rotational Capital Fund (RCF), which was born out of the financial crisis of 2008. When banks begin to fail, a wave of foreclosures hit South Atlanta neighbors. Soon, 170 of 530 homes in the neighborhood were vacant - a 32% vacancy rate. In response, FCS huddled with neighbors, the FCS board and friends to see what action could be taken. The result was the RCF. 15+ years and more than 100 homes later, the RCF still drives our mixed-income housing in neighborhoods on the Southside of Atlanta. Thanks to partnerships and adaptability, a crisis gave FCS an approach that actually works even better than what we were using before. Holding onto this kind of example is at the heart of sustainably reversing the forces of inequity that plague our places. During our most recent recertification in 2020, Sunrise received a B Impact score of 144.2. For context, companies need a score of 80 or higher to qualify for B Corp status. So we're way above that!
