An IP PIN is a six-digit number assigned by the IRS that helps protect you from tax identity theft. Think of it as a secret handshake between you and the IRS - unique to each taxpayer, properly matching your tax return to your identity. Why is this important? With the rise of cybercrime and identity theft, protecting sensitive financial information is more important than ever. Tax-related identity theft occurs when someone uses your stolen Social Security number to file a tax return claiming a fraudulent refund. An IP PIN helps thwart such attempts by requiring this additional verification step. As tax season approaches, take the initiative to learn more about the IP PIN and its benefits. Stay informed, stay protected, and ensure that your tax return remains secure. #southerncalifornia #cpafirm #TaxExperts #taxquestions

You may already know that fraudsters frequently send emails and text messages that purport to be from the IRS but are actually attempts to steal your personal information. You may also know that the IRS primarily uses the U.S. Postal Service to communicate directly with taxpayers. However, be aware that some criminals also use snail mail to commit identity theft. So if you receive a suspicious letter from what looks like the IRS, verify it by contacting us, calling IRS customer service (https://buff.ly/4cR3fDy) or signing in to your secure IRS account (https://buff.ly/3S9NEWZ). Fake letters may include misspellings and grammatical errors and urge recipients to “act immediately” or “pay now.”
