I often say to social workers that the profession of social work and the application of its academic principles, is what it is today, because of people like you and I, i.e., social workers, bring it to fruition. Without us, the people who apply it, social work will remain a noble academic idea based on a collection of great theories and skills. I say this to bring home to social workers the following message: You are what makes social work "social work". You are the vessel through which it manifests. So, in the midst of all of this, take care of the vessel: YOU. So, reciprocate to yourself that which you so freely give to your clients. Be just as affirming, patient, kind, compassionate to yourself as you will be to your clients. Hold unconditional positive regard for yourself, be non-judgmental towards yourself and advocate for yourself where necessary and appropriate. You all must have a wonderful weekend and engage in some self-care.

AACA Joins Call to Change the Script on Social Work We're supporting Social Work England, the regulator in England, calling on the entertainment industry to Change the Script on social work. Change the Script aims to raise awareness of the consequences that negative depictions of social workers have on society. It urges TV and filmmakers to portray social work more accurately and share more about social workers' positive daily impact on people’s lives. The campaign follows the release of two new pieces of research by YouGov, on behalf of Social Work England, that explores the perceptions of social work in society. Media negativity, including misrepresentations of social workers, is a common theme throughout the findings. Social workers believe the all-to-often inaccurate and damaging storylines contribute to mounting recruitment and retention challenges in the profession. Social Work England’s Chief Executive, Colum Conway, said:? “Despite how social workers are often portrayed in popular culture, our research tells us that the vast majority are proud to tell others about their job. They are highly trained and regulated, ensuring high standards are maintained. But more than this, social workers are committed to making a positive change. Each year, they help millions of people improve their life chances." It’s time to Change the Script for social work. Social Worker, Press On! As a social work manager, I witness the sacrifices and the pressure to succeed every day. Social work is a profession that is often misunderstood and underappreciated. Those of us who have chosen this path understand the profound emotional and physical toll it takes. Day in and day out, we immerse ourselves in the stories of the vulnerable, the voiceless, and the marginalized. We absorb their pain, fight their battles, and advocate for their rights. The difficulty of our work lies not only in the systemic challenges we face but also in the personal resilience we must cultivate. It requires an unwavering commitment, deep empathy, and sometimes, sheer willpower to persevere. Believe it or not, each case and each person we encounter leaves a lasting imprint on our hearts. Yet, amidst the challenges, the rewards are so significant. The moment we see a child smile who has lost hope, witness a family reunited, or hear the words of gratitude from someone whose life we’ve impacted, we are reminded of why we do what we do. We are reminded that our efforts matter. We are reminded that we are making a difference. That is also why, as social work managers, now more than ever, we must support and advocate for our teams, ensuring they have the resources and resilience to continue this vital work. Providing training, emotional support, and professional development are key in empowering our social workers to face the daily challenges head-on. Creating a supportive environment where they feel valued and understood can make all the difference. To my fellow social workers, keep pressing on. Your work is invaluable. Your dedication changes lives. Stand strong, for you are the protectors, the advocates, and the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Together, we are weaving a fabric of hope and compassion in a world that needs it more than ever. #SocialWork #Advocacy #SocialWorkMatters #Empowerment #Resilience #Hope

As social workers, we know how diverse and impactful our profession can be, but it's important to remind others—especially those just entering the field that our skills and expertise aren't confined to traditional roles. I recently had a conversation with a fellow social worker who was unaware that non-traditional roles even existed within our profession. After sharing my own journey and explaining the many opportunities outside of the typical settings, she was truly amazed at the breadth of possibilities available to us! This experience reminded me of how crucial it is for us to educate and inspire others about the different paths we can take. It only takes one conversation to open someone's eyes and spark new ideas. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries and empower our peers to explore the diverse, fulfilling roles available to social workers. We are not limited to one mold, and we have the power to shape the future of our profession in countless ways. ?? #SocialWork #NonTraditionalRoles #SocialWorkInnovation #Empowerment #DiversityInSocialWork #CareerGrowth
