Today is World Mental Health Day. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and there are several resources within Lincoln Public Schools to utilize if you or someone you know needs support. LPS has many therapists, psychologists, counselors and social workers in our buildings to support student mental health and wellbeing. We are also grateful for the community partnerships we have built with mental health services in Lincoln to ensure students at all grade levels have the support they need. If you are in need of any of these resources, reach out to a trusted adult or Hope Squad member at your school to help connect you. #LPSCares #WorldMentalHealthDay If you or someone you know is struggling and needs support, please call, text or chat 988, the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Read how Lay Counselors are bridging the mental health gap by boosting the workforce and offering greater access to care:
In San Diego, Naveed Etemadipour is redefining mental health support at the community level. As a substance use disorder counselor, he's seen the devastating impact of limited access to care. But an innovative training program through the Lay Counselor Academy (LCA) equipped him with vital skills to offer effective counseling without a license. ?? His approach? Empathy, open-ended questions, and active listening. It led to a life-changing breakthrough for a Vietnam War veteran battling survivor’s guilt and addiction. ????? This is more than a success story; it's a beacon of hope for the 55% of Californians facing long waits for mental health treatment. Programs like LCA are pivotal in improving the behavioral health landscape — especially for communities of color and low-income families. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and today marks the beginning of Children's Mental Health Awareness Week (May 3 - 10). Mental health issues can be extraordinarily isolating, and even as we fight against the stigma of speaking up on these issues, lack of public education can make it difficult for families to find the help they need for their children. Learn how you can make a difference at aacap.org. #ChildrensWishes #MentalHealthMatters

As part of this reminder, Kookaburra Kids would like to highlight the crucial role families play in a young person's mental health journey. Did you know that studies show children who come from supportive families, who have open conversations about mental health, are less likely to develop a mental illness. If you're interested in supporting a young person in your family to have open and honest conversations about mental health, then head to our clinically developed resources page. It's filled with important information you may need to help a young person through their journey: https://lnkd.in/gJPtrRrZ You can also refer a young person to one of our clinically developed programs, where they learn important mental health education, make connections and learn where to go for support: https://lnkd.in/gJrvzyjs #nationalfamiliesweek #mentalhealtheducation #families #mentalhealthjourney #Resources #supportivefamilies #openconversations #refer

Promoting Mental Health Awareness in Schools and Universities As part of our commitment to mental health awareness, we recently participated in various classes, including the Zero Suicide Alliance training for university students. ?? Why Spreading Awareness Matters ? - Early Intervention : Educating children and young adults about mental health equips them with the tools to recognize signs early and seek help. Reducing Stigma : By openly discussing mental health, we break down barriers and reduce the stigma associated with seeking support. Creating Supportive Communities : Awareness initiatives foster empathy and create a supportive environment for those struggling with mental health challenges. Let’s continue this important conversation and empower the next generation to prioritize their well-being. #MentalHealthAwareness #YouAreNotAlone
