In Pennsylvania, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton region has been identified as a hot spot for human trafficking, with Pennsylvania itself ranking ninth nationally for trafficking cases reported. There’s been a recent increase and it’s believed the reported numbers are even more due to the reluctance of victims to seek help out of fear and dependency on their traffickers. In order to address the rise, the Victims Resource Center has made efforts to enhance public awareness and collaborative efforts with local organizations such as treatment centers, homeless shelters, and other agencies to identify and support victims. However, challenges persist, such as a lack of dedicated safe places, victim blaming, and funding for support services. It’s essential to boost education and public awareness efforts as victims may not always recognize their own exploitation due to the manipulation and control of their traffickers. ?? Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) dollars are the only federal funding source available for services to all victims of crime and the funds are at a historical low. Without action, this decrease in funds will result in a decrease in the number of victims and survivors that are served. We must bridge the gap for the thousands of survivors served by VOCA. Support the #VOCABridge to ensure the sustainability of services throughout the Commonwealth. We must continue to support survivors and stabilize victim service programming across the state. To help us support the swift passage of H.4496 and its inclusion of the VOCA Bridge to ensure the sustainability of services for survivors: ? **Iowa Steps Up to Support Crime Victims** It's heartening to see Iowa commit $5.5M to fill the funding void for crime victims. This injection of cash will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by crime. The funding will be used to provide essential services, such as counseling, victim advocacy, and support for those who have been victims of crime. This is a crucial step forward in ensuring that crime victims receive the support they need to heal and recover. It's essential that governments take proactive measures to support those who have been affected by crime. This funding will not only help victims but also contribute to breaking the cycle of crime and promoting a safer community. Kudos to Iowa for taking this important step! #Iowa #CrimeVictims #SupportForVictims #CommunityFirst Source: https://lnkd.in/gMYAzX4g Update Date: 21 hours ago

?? CALL TO ACTION: Support the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act! The time is NOW for congressional leaders to protect victim services funding! Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants provide essential support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and other crimes. But devastating cuts to these grants are threatening services in our communities. In FY24 alone, VOCA grants were slashed by 40%. Without immediate action, victims and service providers will face even greater challenges. We urgently need Congress to pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (S.4514/H.R. 8061) to restore funding and safeguard these vital resources. ?? Here’s why it matters: ??If Congress fails to act, statewide hotlines may close, leaving survivors with nowhere to turn. ??Advocates may lose their jobs, increasing wait times for critical counseling services. ??Essential programs like housing, legal aid, and shelters could be cut, pushing survivors into homelessness. Your voice is needed! Contact your Senator and Representative to demand action: 1?? Urge them to cosponsor and support S.4514/H.R. 8061. 2?? Share how these cuts are impacting survivors in your community. 3?? Spread the word to amplify this message! Together, we can ensure survivors get the support they need. Let’s make our voices heard! #SupportSurvivors #VOCA #CrimeVictimsFund #PassS4514 #PassHR8061

We need your help to protect vital services for victims of crime. The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding has been cut by 40%, forcing programs like domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centers, and child abuse treatment programs to reduce services, lay off staff, or close their doors. This jeopardizes critical support for over 6 million victims annually. Congress has cut VOCA funding by nearly $600 million due to decreased deposits into the Crime Victims Fund (CVF). To address this crisis, we’re urging Members of Congress to co-sponsor and pass the bipartisan Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act of 2024, which already has 190 cosponsors in the House and growing support in the Senate. How You Can Help: 1. Take action now by using the NNEDV Action Alert (https://lnkd.in/gTV73mvM) to send a pre-written email to your legislators. 2. Alternatively, email your representatives directly to share how these cuts affect victim service providers in your community. Every voice counts. Together, we can ensure victim service programs have the resources they need to continue providing life-saving support. Thank you for taking a stand!

The UCP's decision to dismantle 62 victim services units has left many communities without the grassroots support they need. Reports indicate that these volunteer led units were responsive and supportive, even offering support dogs to console children affected by violence. The question remains, why dismantle them? All funding will now be directed to 4 new entities, leaving many wondering about the UCP's priorities. Victim services are essential to the fabric of our communities, and it's time for answers. Ask your MLA why the UCP is destroying the very foundation of a caring community. #VictimServices #CommunitySupport #UCPDecision #GrassrootsPrograms

Survivors of domestic and sexual violence deserve access to life-saving services. The Crime Victims Fund is critical in supporting shelters, crisis centers, and other essential services for victims. For True North of Columbia, this funding helps sustain emergency shelter, advocacy, and support services for survivors in our community. Join me in calling on Congress to pass the bipartisan Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFS Act) before the end of the year. This act will redirect unused funds from the False Claims Act to stabilize the Crime Victims Fund, preventing further catastrophic cuts to domestic and sexual violence service providers nationwide. Without immediate action, organizations that provide vital services will face devastating cuts, leaving countless survivors without support. Call Congress today and urge them to protect these crucial resources!
Survivors of domestic and sexual violence deserve access to life-saving services. Call Congress TODAY to urge them to pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFS Act). Congress must pass the bipartisan CVFS Act before the end of the year to prevent devastating cuts to the Victims of Crime Act. The CVFS Act would redirect excess, unobligated funds from the False Claims Act (FCA) to the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) to prevent further catastrophic cuts to domestic and sexual violence service providers across the country. The Crime Victims Fund provides the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants to state, territorial, and local agencies to provide direct services to victims of all types of time. VOCA supports almost 6,500 direct service providers, including domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers. In recent years, deposits to the CVF have reduced significantly, leading to a devastating $600 million cut in funding from FY23 to FY24. Decreased funding means service providers are forced to triage their services or close. Read our full news story here: https://loom.ly/KBVGuXE #DomesticViolence #SexualViolence #SaveVOCA
