I believe a significant challenge we face in cybersecurity, especially within the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), is the tendency to over-communicate. In our efforts to foster collaboration (mostly on public platforms) and transparency, we often share detailed security frameworks, standards, and controls. However, I believe this provides our adversaries with critical insights into our strategies and defenses, effectively handing them a game plan for our security measures. While I firmly believe in the importance of advocating for robust security practices and the value of established standards, I wonder, at what cost? I believe having the right balance between transparency and operational security is essential. Maybe in the long run it doesn't even matter, but I often wonder if there is a better way. #cybersecurity #cmmc #nist
