Let’s flip from pushing solutions to creating the pull of desirability. Too often, we over-leverage our assumptions of what we think people want, then end up having to convince them to buy this thing we’re pushing on them. What if we made what they wanted in the first place?? Lift Collective’s Conor McFerran recently spoke with Drew Burdick on the latest episode of Drew’s Building Great Experiences podcast to discuss how getting out into the world and empathizing with consumer need is a crucial ingredient in designing offerings that are truly successful—the ones people can’t live without. As Drew succinctly summarizes: “The key takeaway? Build a product that pulls customers in rather than one you have to push on them. That pull comes from truly understanding your users, involving them in the design, and focusing on delivering a simple, lovable, complete product experience.” YouTube: https://lnkd.in/ecRKbFMe Spotify: https://lnkd.in/evXFqEG2

?? Are You the Right PM for Your Product? ?? I recently listened to a Lenny Rachitsky's podcast episode featuring Rohini Pandhi, Product at Mercury, discussing the different flavors of PMs: Pioneers, Settlers, and City Planners. ???? Pioneers: Thrive in zero-to-one environments, building from scratch. ???? Settlers: Excel at scaling products in growth stages. ??♂? City Planners: Optimize mature products, focusing on efficiency and reliability. This simple framework made me reflect on my own experience and how important it is to understand what the business and product needs. Before joining Ignite, I was successful in scaling and rolling out products quickly. I felt confident in my skills and assumed I could just copy-paste my approach. Boy, was I wrong! ?? After a brutally honest but constructive conversation with my manager, he pointed out key improvement areas and set crystal-clear expectations. That conversation was a wake-up call. It wasn’t easy to hear that my performance wasn’t up to par, but it fueled my desire to improve. Reflecting back, I can now see the issue clearly: The product didn’t need a Settler. It needed a Pioneer. ?? So, I shifted my mindset and focused on learning the tools the product truly needed. Fast forward a year, by focusing on customer needs and building a scalable foundation, we've transformed our product into a more intentional and user-centric sustainable procurement platform. Here’s what I’d do differently if I could go back: ?? Clarify Expectations: Set clear expectations early. ?? Assess Product Maturity: Align your approach with the product’s stage. ?? Engage Customers: Uncover core problems through user insights. ???? Adapt and Learn: Continuously develop your toolkit to fit the product's needs. Great PMs aren't just skilled—they’re adaptable. By understanding the product's needs, you can truly make an impact. What stage is your product in? Are you the PM it needs? Drop a comment and let’s discuss!
