Dr. Pearl McElfish, Director of UAMS’s Institute for Community Health Innovation, dropped some great leadership nuggets at the Springdale Chamber’s Women’s Networking Luncheon. She encouraged us to: 1)Discover your superpower and spend the majority of your time doing that. 2)Prioritize what is most important right now and help your team prioritize. 3)Speak the truth and develop a culture where your team speaks the truth. 4)Don’t wait for the good stuff. Build it in everyday.

Filled with gratitude on this Thanksgiving week to be part of an exciting collaboration between Hartford HealthCare and the CITY OF MERIDEN, with strong support from the State of Connecticut, Governor Ned Lamont and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, whose civic leadership I admired even as a young elected official. Partnering with Mayor Kevin Scarpati, State Representatives Quinn and Fazzino, and the Meriden City Council, we’re creating more than just fields—we’re creating opportunities for Meriden’s youth to grow, thrive, and reach their fullest potential. This project will relocate two grass fields from MidState Medical Center to Columbus Park on Lewis Avenue, transforming the space into a safe, modern, and accessible environment for physical activity and teamwork. This is health and wellness in action. By investing in spaces that foster collaboration, resilience, and growth, we’re making a profound statement: we believe in the promise of our youth as future leaders and innovators. ?? Leading with Care in Times of Crisis At ON ITS AXIS, Los Angeles is not just where we often work—it’s part of who we are. Headquartered in Costa Mesa, CA, we have a satellite office in LA County and deep ties to our clients, partners, and friends in this region. We are standing with everyone impacted by the Southern California wildfires, including the families, first responders, and utility workers navigating this crisis. This tragedy is a powerful reminder of the responsibility leaders have to support their teams and communities during times of uncertainty. Leadership during times of crisis can feel overwhelming, but it’s also an opportunity to create stability and care for those who rely on you. Here are five ways leaders can support their teams through uncertainty: 1?? Communicate Transparently: Share updates openly, even if all the answers aren’t clear. Transparency builds trust and reassures your team during uncertain times. 2?? Prioritize Well-Being: Check in on your team members personally. Flexibility and empathy create a foundation of support that strengthens morale. 3?? Empower Decision-Making: Encourage your team to focus on what’s within their control. Guiding them to take small, actionable steps can reduce stress and build momentum. 4?? Model Resilience: Your team looks to you for cues. Approach challenges with a calm and solutions-focused mindset to inspire confidence. 5?? Foster Connection: Create opportunities for your team to connect and share experiences. A sense of community can help people feel supported and less isolated. To those directly impacted, and to the first responders, nonprofit professionals, and field utility workers courageously addressing this evolving crisis, our thoughts are with you.
