In honor of #NationalTattooDay, here's what you need to know about tattoos + blood donation. 1) There's no waiting period in most states, including Virginia, if you got a tattoo in a state-reg facility with fresh ink & needles. 2) There are a handful of states that don't regulate tattoo facilities. In these states, there's a 3-month waiting period to donate blood: District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah & Wyoming. 3) Questions about your eligibility to donate blood? Today, on ??World Blood Donation Day??, I’m reflecting on the profound impact a single act of kindness can have. Did you know that someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds? Count 1 and 2, that's 1 need. While you were reading this already 3 persons needed blood. That’s approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells needed every single day. And that's only in the US, globally, the demand is even more staggering. One blood donation can save up to three lives. A ripple effect of hope and survival starts with a single person deciding to give. I did my part today by donating at the American Red Cross. It’s a small gesture I know I should do more often, but it’s my way of honoring this special day. My grandmother, an honorary donor, gave blood more than 100 times. Her legacy is a testament to the power of regular blood donations. Giving birth is a miracle, but saving a life? Knowing that your blood doesn’t just run through the veins of your children, but also flows in someone else out there, connecting you to a stranger in an extraordinary way – that’s truly amazing. This past week, I carved out some time to design and build a quick new site for my wife’s nonprofit, Post Stroke. It’s very much an MVP-type project; we have a ton of ideas we’ve yet to build out. But I think it’s a solid first step and a reminder that ‘done is better than perfect’ :) Also, for those not in the know, this month is Stroke Awareness Month. Post Stroke has a ton of excellent awareness and educational content planned. They also just launched their first fundraiser.
