Candidly, I often wonder if the work we do matters. The world is on fire. And I sometimes feel helpless in making things better. Then I try and remind myself that how we talk to each other matters. If and how we choose to recover from missteps and grow matters. How we share our perspectives and observations (with care and, when needed, humility) matters. Someone took me through a legacy exercise last year and asked me to imagine what the legacy of my work would be in 100 years. I couldn't even imagine it because the world is on fire and I wasn't sure what would exist in 100 years. I couldn't do 50 years either. But then we got to 20 years, and we'll still be here. Our world will likely be very different, and borders will probably shift quite a bit. One thing we'll definitely need is people to help us treat each other better, navigate conflict better, and build/rebuild communities and ways of collaborating together. So I focused on that because I can help with that, and I think you can, too. Your work absolutely matters. I'm glad you're bringing your gifts to the world because we need them. ??
