On World Duchenne Awareness Day #WDAD2024, PaLaDIn partners Duchenne UK have released a new policy report - 'Transforming our rare reality'. This report provides a complete picture of what it is like to live with DMD in the United Kingdom in 2024. The report includes?a range of recommendations that look to improve the treatment and support available for people with DMD and their families.?Click here to view the report:?https://lnkd.in/ejWYMPdu
People in the UK with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) are living in a society that neither recognises nor meets their needs. Parents of children with DMD and adults with DMD in the UK have had to do so much for themselves. With approximately 2,500 people in the UK living with DMD, the community is small. But it has worked together and achieved so much. We now need others to join and help us. We have launched a report ‘Transforming our rare reality’ for World Duchenne Awareness Day, which outlines how people with DMD are not getting the care, treatment or assistive technology they need. We also set out a range of recommendations in the report on how to improve the treatment and support for people with DMD and their families. Please take time to read and share it, and let us know if you would like to work with and support us on continuing to transform our rare reality. You can read our report, and join our campaign, here: https://lnkd.in/ejWYMPdu #WDAD2024

February is dedicated to raising awareness about age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and low vision, affecting millions of people in the United States. Getting diagnosed with an eye disease or condition that causes vision loss can be overwhelming — and individuals may not know where to start when it comes to accessing vision rehabilitation services. That’s why we believe in the importance of spreading awareness and sharing resources and information on helpful low-vision services and their accessibility. At VLANJ, it's our mission to help those with blindness or vision loss live independently and confidently. If you want to learn more about our programs, support, and resources for those who are blind or living with low vision, contact us at (973) 627-0055; prompt #4 to reach our Program Director, Vicki Lowrie, or email [email protected] Image Description: A picture of a person who is blind sitting on a bench is featured. In the background there is a purple circle and yellow and purple text that says "February is AMD/Low Vision Awareness Month" centered in the graphic.

?? October is Blindness Awareness Month ?? This month, we spotlight the challenges faced by those with visual impairments, including those affected by conditions such as Corneal Dystrophy and Fuchs' Dystrophy. More than just a vision problem. Fuchs' Dystrophy deteriorates the innermost layer of the cornea, causing vision to fog and glare sensitivity to increase. This Blindness Awareness Month, understand the signs and let’s advocate for early intervention and treatment options. #fuchsdystrophy #blindnessawareness #eyecare

?????Today is the first Global CMN Awareness Day!????? Did you know that?Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (CMN)?is a rare skin condition that affects 1 in every 20,000 babies? My daughter was born with CMN, and while it comes with unique challenges, it has also made her the strong, beautiful soul she is today. ?? CMN are large, pigmented birthmarks that can appear anywhere on the body at birth. They vary in size, color, and can sometimes have medical complications, but more than anything, they remind us of the beauty in diversity. We want to raise awareness and educate others on CMN. It’s not just about the visible marks; it’s about the journey of embracing differences and ensuring everyone feels included and supported. ?? ???How can you help??? Share this post to spread awareness. ? Take the time to learn more about CMN and support research. ? Always practice kindness — not all differences are visible. Let’s work together to create a world where all children feel accepted for who they are, CMN and all. ???? https://lnkd.in/dzHnthPS #CMNAwarenessDay #CMNWarrior #EmbraceDifferences
