Researchers at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have introduced an innovative wearable robot, the WalkON Suit F1, designed to assist individuals with paraplegia. Unlike previous models, the F1 robot autonomously walks to the user, fitting itself directly from their wheelchair, removing the need for assistance to put it on. This cutting-edge robot can also navigate obstacles like narrow passages and stairs and maintain balance even if pushed, thanks to advanced weight control. Developed in collaboration with Angel Robotics, WalkON Suit F1 integrates enhanced components, such as motors and control circuits produced domestically in Korea, with an output density twice as powerful as earlier models. The robot includes AI-driven obstacle detection and visual recognition systems, which improve safety and usability. KAIST’s Professor Hyunjoon Park has designed the robot’s exterior to combine elements of a humanoid, making it user-friendly and sleek.
