When faced with adversity, some of us tend to scatter and run away from the approaching danger, like cattle. Others, like buffalo, will assemble and run headfirst into the approaching storm. If you find yourself feeling like you're more like cattle, running away from the storm alone, it's time to join a herd. At our organization, we embrace the #BuffaloCulture. We are a herd (peer advisory group) where each member is heard, and where our questions get answered and our answers get questioned. Leading can be lonely, but it certainly doesn't have to be. Connect with a peer advisory group and discover what it looks like to be a part of a community that charges headfirst into the storms together.

Finsen Yu and his family are transforming lives through their community garden in Montgomery, Alabama. Their foundation, named Help a Brother Out, provides residents access to free, fresh foods and a place to learn about self-sufficiency and self-growth. Aside from getting produce, people can also take classes in gardening, meditation and financial literacy. “We try to help the community help itself by instilling values and developing future leaders,” Finsen said. Finsen and his family recently received support from the Red Cross through its Community Adaptation Program to help the foundation expand its efforts and be more resilient against the climate crisis. With the provided funding, they purchased a new greenhouse, storage shed, four-wheeler, and other equipment to broaden the garden’s reach. Through this partnership, the Yu family's foundation can help more families access nutritious food and continue serving the community in the face of disasters. “The community knows that we’re here and that the Red Cross is behind us,” Finsen said. “Knowing that, they come to us because they know the Red Cross can help.”

Happy #ThinkAboutItThursday This week, I'd like to share a story from my friend Randy Haney about building a barbed wire fence on his ranch. The process is way more involved than I thought, and it offers some valuable lessons that apply to our personal and professional lives. To start, you need to map out the fence line, marking the area where the work will be done. Next, you set the corner posts, which serve as the foundation for the rest of the fence. Then, you bury and set the remaining fence posts, a labor-intensive task that begins to define the boundaries of the area. The final step requires a full team effort to pull the barbed wire "bull tight" ?? and complete the fence. However, the hard work doesn't end there. Over time, the wire tension will degrade, and if you're not proactive, the fence will eventually fail. This can lead to unwanted consequences, such as lost livestock or damage to the pasture. But there's a better approach. By regularly walking the fence line and checking for signs of issues, you can identify and repair problems before they become major headaches. This proactive approach can save time and effort in the long run. The same principle applies to our personal and professional relationships. Building a strong, engaged team, nurturing family bonds, and maintaining true friendships requires a significant amount of effort upfront. However, if you're not regularly checking in and providing support, these relationships can drift apart, requiring even more effort to repair. On the other hand, by prioritizing regular check-ins and offering support, you can strengthen and maintain these bonds. This is especially important in today's fast-paced world, where it's easy to get caught up in our individual to do lists and neglect the relationships that matter most. By taking a proactive approach to nurturing our relationships, we can build a stronger, more resilient network of support that benefits everyone involved. ???? ?? ?????? ?????? …. ?????? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????? ?????? ?????????? ????????? ??

On the state of 79% of UK fleet: small-scale vessels! The UK is not only ignoring the #FisheriesAct2020 in considering “social, economic and environmental criteria” when allocating quota - small-scale vessels have only 3% of the UK total quota; But also the “threat of depleted #fishstocks and the effects of #climatechange and #pollution” are not being addressed, which disproportionately affect small-scale activities. Small-scale #fisheries, and its community and livelihood, cultural heritage, and sustainability unique characteristics, need protection within deep policy change.
