What actually causes high cholesterol? Levels Advisor Robert Lustig, MD explains the different types of cholesterol and what drives cardiovascular disease. Cholesterol is necessary for the body. In fact, our bodies have a method for manufacturing it. But cholesterol gets a bad rap because of confusion about the types—and which type actually drives cardiovascular disease. Understanding the different types of cholesterol can help you tailor your diet and lifestyle habits for better metabolic health. Keep in mind that the pattern of all types of cholesterol taken together, rather than individual levels, matters the most. Types of cholesterol: - high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol: “good” cholesterol - low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol—two types: large buoyant (lbLDL) and small dense (sdLDL) - very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL): represented as triglycerides Understanding the types of LDL: - lbLDL: neutral when it comes to cardiovascular health and is elevated via fat consumption - sdLDL: drives atherosclerosis and is elevated via sugar consumption What you can do: - Reduce sugar consumption to minimize sdLDL. - Get regular exercise to elevate HDL. ?? Demystifying Cholesterol: The Good, the Bad and Heart Health Cholesterol is vital for human health. It plays a crucial role in building cell membranes, is a precursor to vital hormones, and aids in the production of vitamin D. However, maintaining a balance is essential. ?? The Good: HDL, or "good" cholesterol transports cholesterol from other parts of the body back to the liver, where it's processed and removed from the body. This process helps to keep the arteries open and reduces the risk of heart diseases and strokes. Thus, a higher HDL level is a positive marker for cardiovascular health. ?? The Bad: Conversely, LDL, or "bad" cholesterol, can accumulate and form plaque on the walls of arteries, leading to a narrowing and hardening known as atherosclerosis. This condition significantly heightens the risk of cardiovascular diseases. ?? Balance is Key: Achieving a healthy equilibrium between HDL and LDL cholesterol levels is fundamental for heart health. Adopting a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, minimizing intake of saturated and trans fats, incorporating some natural supplementation*; and engaging in regular physical activity can support this balance. Understanding and taking care of our body is the first step towards maintaining health. *In a clinical study, #ABG10+ was shown to have significant positive effects on cholesterol levels. #CardiovascularHealth #Cholesterol #Wellness

???Did you know that visceral fat is biologically active???? Fat distribution in our bodies can greatly influence our health. Lower body fat (pear shape) is subcutaneous, while abdominal fat (apple shape) is largely visceral. Unlike subcutaneous fat, visceral fat surrounds internal organs and is associated with various health risks. ???Biological Activity of Belly Fat? Visceral fat is biologically active, acting like an endocrine organ. It produces hormones and substances that disrupt normal hormonal balance and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. These substances can affect insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. ???Visceral Fat's Harmful Location Located near the portal vein, visceral fat releases free fatty acids into the liver, affecting blood lipid production and contributing to higher LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol. ???The Silver Lining ?Despite its risks, belly fat can be managed with regular exercise and a healthy diet. ?? The Body Reset is a simple system that can reduce belly fat using intelligent nutrition, timesaving workouts and stress relieving strategies. I've spoken before about Statins and how they are being prescribed very frequently these days. They are vital in some cases but as with all medications they can cause imbalances and trigger chain reactions within your body. (See my content from Heart Week on my blog: https://lnkd.in/gQyxCPxX) How do they work? Statins are prescribed to control cholesterol. They block an enzyme in your liver that's necessary for making cholesterol. However, statins don't just stop at lowering cholesterol production, they also deplete CoQ10, a vital enzyme for energy production in your cells, and Statins inhibit the synthesis of Vitamin D, crucial for bone health and immune function. You need CoQ10 for muscle function and energy. Statins, while protecting your heart, can inadvertently sap your energyand cause issues with your muscles by lowering CoQ10 levels. Similarly, by hindering Vitamin D production, they can affect your bone strength and immune response. Routine testing of CoQ10 levels for individuals taking statins is not typically performed as part of standard medical practice. CoQ10 levels are not routinely monitored as part of treatment but if you're taking statins, you need to be aware of these potential imbalances before there is a more significant impact on your health. LDL Cholesterol Types: Type A: Larger and fluffier particles, less likely to penetrate artery walls and contribute to plaque buildup. Type B: Smaller and denser particles, more easily able to squeeze into artery walls and potentially increase heart disease risk. Lifestyle and Diet Impact: Unhealthy habits like smoking, physical inactivity, and a diet high in saturated and trans fats can indeed promote the production of type B LDL particles. Conversely, healthy choices like regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and consuming a diet rich in protein , good fats , and good ( easy to digest ) carbs can help shift the balance towards larger, less harmful LDL particles. Importance of Early Detection and Intervention: While a higher proportion of type B LDL is a cause for concern, it’s crucial not to panic. Identifying this through a comprehensive cholesterol test and understanding your overall risk factors empowers you to take proactive steps. Early intervention through lifestyle changes and, if necessary, medication under doctor’s guidance can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. Remember: Don’t ignore this “small indication,” but approach it with informed action. Consult your doctor to discuss your cholesterol levels, risk factors, and personalized recommendations for improving your cardiovascular health. Small, sustainable changes in your diet and exercise routine can make a big difference in the long run. By taking control of your health and making informed choices, you can significantly reduce your risk of heart disease and other health problems associated with high LDL cholesterol, regardless of the predominant type. #ldlcholesterol #cholestrol #heartattackprevention #diabetesdiet #mobilityexercises #hearthealth #healthyfood #weightloss

We've been lied to about heart disease and cholesterol: * "Cholesterol is bad" * "Cholesterol causes heart disease" * "Be careful of eating too many eggs" All lies. We need cholesterol not only to survive but to thrive. There are 3 main reasons why: 1) Hormonal Regulation 2) Vitamin D Synthesis 3) Neurological Functioning Cholesterol is not inherently bad. It's a necessary building block of many functions of the human body. The key is to limit processed foods that damage and break down our cholesterol. We've been taught HDL is "good" and LDL is "bad," but it's not that simple. Both play key roles in cholesterol regulation. HDL transports it to the liver. LDL brings it to the blood. So what are we missing? The mainstream narrative is that excess LDL (bad cholesterol) can lead to the buildup of plaque in arteries. It's easy to then build a very lucrative pharmaceutical industry (the most profitable drug ever is a statin) on the fear of cholesterol. But this is leaving out one important factor in the buildup Oxidation. LDL and HDL are simply vehicles. They move back and forth. When they become oxidized they are slowly damaged or destroyed. Now we have a traffic jam and to make matters worse, these vehicles are on fire and toxic, causing inflammation. #cholesterol #diabetes #health #healthylifestyle #nutrition #hearthealth #healthy #heartdisease #bloodpressure #weightloss #fitness #healthyliving #highbloodpressure #wellness #healthyfood #kolesterol #diet #heart #hypertension #cholesterolfree #bloodsugar #heartattack #obesity #inflammation #detox #over #type #hearthealthy #healthyeating #stroke

When you lose weight, your fat cells undergo several changes. Let's have a look. Reduction in Fat Cell Size is important to know. Basically when you lose weight, the size of fat cells reduces! NICE WORK! As you consume fewer calories and your body starts to burn stored fat for energy, the the form of fat stored in fat cells called triglycerides are broken down into glycerol and free fatty acids. These are then released into the bloodstream and used as fuel by the body. Simples The number of fat cells in your body generally doesn't change when you lose weight. Once you've got them, you've got them. The number of fat cells is typically established during childhood and adolescence and remains relatively constant in adulthood. Weight loss causes these cells to shrink, but the amount of cells stay the same. Weight loss can lead to changes in the hormones and metabolic functions of fat cells. Fat cells secrete various hormones, such as leptin, which plays a role in regulating appetite and metabolism. As fat cells shrink, the levels of these hormones can change, affecting hunger, energy expenditure, and overall metabolism. What's not to love about this. So what else - well although the total number of fat cells doesn't decrease, their distribution in the body can change. Weight loss may lead to a reduction in fat stored in certain areas, such as the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks, depending on your body's fat distribution pattern. it never seems to come off where you want it to right? But remember it's all relative depending on how many cells you have and where. Shrinking fat cells can lead to improved insulin sensitivity. Larger fat cells are often associated with insulin resistance, a condition where the body's cells do not respond effectively to insulin. Weight loss and the resulting reduction in fat cell size can help improve how the body uses insulin, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders. So let's recap - losing weight primarily reduces the size of fat cells but not their number. This process involves the breakdown of stored triglycerides, leading to a decrease in fat cell volume and associated metabolic and hormonal changes that can positively impact overall health. If you are on that weight loss journey - be patient, be consistent and be determined. It will happen. #health #lifestyle #nutrition #fat
