Just one more day, y'all!
Most mornings I head down to the local coffee shop in Allegan, MI. Politically, we are purple, so I get the privilege of overhearing and participating in mixed conversations about politics. Here are summaries of what I've heard:
Trump Supporters: "I don't like the man, but I like his policies. He believes in low taxes for corporations so they can create jobs and raise salaries. I believe in American companies and I believe in Trump and they will do right by us. Trump wasn't given a fair shake last time and the pandemic derailed his agenda. Give him 4 more years."
Harris Supporters: "Harris has risen to this moment and taken the mantle of leadership in America. As VP she helped navigate us out of an economic crisis, a national health crisis, and an attack on a woman's right to control her own body. Now, she aims to lower prices, expand homeownership, and expand women's rights. Harris will work for the people and make our country more democratic."
Undecided: "I just don't like them and can't see myself supporting either candidate."
I don't think it's a surprise to anybody that I support Kamala Harris. For places like Allegan that need more housing, need our downtowns filled, and want everybody to feel welcome and at home, the choice, to me, is clear.
No matter the outcome, however, we will all still be here working together to make our friendships stronger, our communities brighter, and our shared futures more secure.
