Now that the cutting cycle has begun, a coastal home might seem like an excellent idea, but there are a few things you need to consider first before packing your bags. Coastal towns have become significantly more popular than inland regions since remote work has become more commonplace because if people can work from anywhere, they’d rather have a sea view. According to Lightstone Property, this trend is reflected in yearly property inflation too, as at the end of June 2024 it stood at 7% in coastal regions, and only 1% in inland areas. This is one of the first things you will need to take into consideration if you’re considering a move to the coast, as your money won’t get you as far in these regions. As a result, you need to be careful not to overprice your inland home to afford a coastal property. Maintenance costs are another thing you’ll need to take into account, especially if you live close to the shore. Coastal homes are exposed to much higher humidity and salt from the sea spray, which can accelerate the corrosion of your metal fixtures, which means your maintenance costs will likely be more frequent and costly. But you still can’t beat a sea view and the lifestyle a coastal city offers, so while you should keep these considerations in mind, a move to the seaside will never be a bad idea.
