We're hiring a Marketing Intern right now. Here are 2 takeaways from my viewpoint on hiring for this position. Hopefully, they might help those looking to land an internship this Fall or those frustrated. 1. This position is competitive, even for a small agency like mine. We have 10 great candidates so far who will all be explored further. The job post has been up for less than a week and has no crazy ad budgets behind it. While the job description mentions previous work experience as a plus in the field, most of the top applicants already have prior work experience in the field. 2. I'm surprised at the lack of traction on Handshake. It's the platform our local university encourages students to use to land internships. A small handful of students have completed their profiles, but most of them just have the basic information. Students can set themselves apart by including a photo of themselves and a little more depth on their profiles, especially for a marketing role where some of these skills will come into play. Interviews are already filling up my available time this week and next. I'm excited to get to know the applicants a little better and try to find the best fit for both sides for this role!
