Thank you to our attendees today for this session. It was small AND very engaged. Thank you to Therese Winters for her expert hosting as always. And thank you to Orshi and Eileen for the amazing discussion on #bravery. Apart from looking at the research and discussing a couple of case studies, we also explored this idea. Thank sometimes it takes more energy NOT to be brave than to embrace discomfort and take a risk and do it anyway! For example, you have long harbored a dream of making an impact in a new role or with an idea that you have, but the comfort of steady work in another field makes you reluctant to take the leap! Every time that voice says, "hey, remember me? I am that dream you have!" you swat it away and keep yourself busy with things that are not as appealing. You tell yourself that your dream is silly, unrealistic or foolish. Maybe people around you reinforce the idea that it is just TOO risky. So consider this. Suppose you took the chance and the worst happened? You do not achieve the dream. What then. We tend to focus on the potential for disaster even though there are other viable outcomes. 1. You may not achieve your dream but you may stumble across a new dream that is manageable. 2. You can set a timeline and decide to go back to your "old" life if things don't work out. 3. You may be able to follow your dream even as your keep your steady job - at least for now. 4. And that energy you currently use for keeping the dream at bay will be engaged! So what is something you would do today if you were just 2% braver than you have been up until now. How will it feel to embrace the dream and give it everything you've got? It’s for moments like these—when we’re suddenly faced with a challenge and might quickly spiral into panic, fear, or doubt. Celebrating our wins as they happen helps us store them in a kind of vault of resilience and encouragement. I am proud to be a Husky! #GoHuskies As a University of Connecticut alumni member, I am filled with immense pride as we celebrate?Geno Auriemma's historic achievement?in becoming the?winningest basketball coach in NCAA history. Confession: I thought the women could never beat Tennesse (Coach Pat Summit) and for that matter, the men could never beat Duke (Coach K). But I trusted our coach and loved our team. And I have never stopped watching them...season after season. A proud moment for me today! With?1,217 wins, Geno has set a record that transcends numbers—it embodies excellence through?leadership, hard work, and timeless dedication. From?11 national titles?and?six undefeated seasons?to those legendary streaks of?98 and 111 consecutive wins, his coaching career at UConn is a masterclass in setting standards that are not just admired but revered. These milestones are a testament to his ability to inspire teams to aim higher, work harder, and always strive to be better than yesterday. As I reflect on this achievement, I see lessons not just for sports but for life and work: Vision:?Geno didn't create a 40-year plan but built excellence day by day, proving that greatness lies in the commitment to continual improvement. Something I didn't know I needed to hear... "Focus on Winning Today: Quit living in the past. How much you've won or lost up to this point is irrelevant. If you'd like to continue winning... Or if you want to stop losing… You have to show up and compete today. Then… Compete tomorrow. Compete next week. Compete next month. Compete every day 'til the day you die. Nobody cares that you were at the top of your class. Nobody cares that you won the championship game. Nobody cares that you were employee of the month. Nobody cares if you never did a damn thing before. It’s what you do from here that matters. Far too many lives are wasted reliving the glory days and wins from the past. As well as the devastating loses. Put your foot on the gas and focus on the actions you're taking to win today. That's the only thing that matters." -A. Frisella It's not that our past accomplishments don't matter. It's not that our past failures don't shape us. But I needed this reminder to bring one of my favorite quotes back to the forefront of my mind: "The past is history. The future a mystery. Today is a gift; that is why we call it the present."
