In September, SAW partnered with Weyerhaeuser to hold a Climate Resiliency and Forestry workshop and tour in Hudson Bay at Weyerhaeuser’s Oriented Strand Board (OSB) mill and active operation sites. Workshop participants learned about the climate related challenges that the forestry industry faces, climate smart forestry, and the BMPs Weyerhaeuser has been adopting to ensure the long-term sustainability of the forest while remaining economically viable. WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY / Ensuring the longevity of the kārearea’s habitat is incredibly important to Abodo and also to the estate’s managers, Timberlands. Timberlands have partnered with Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust to establish protected nesting areas within the forest and to ensure the wellbeing of the species through careful forestry practices within the Kaingaroa Forestry Estate - the source of much of Abodo’s timber. As I've mentioned before, the forest industry has historically struggled to effectively promote the important work it does. Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. aims to change that. Tsideldel First Nation and Tl'etinqox Government have a bold vision: to empower First Nations to lead forest management and rehabilitation projects on their traditional territories. Together, they established Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. to coordinate and implement large-scale forestry programs and initiatives.
