How do you read grain like the PGA players at Bay Hill this week? Look at the hole and wherever you see the dead part of the grass means that is the direction of the grain. If the green is sloping in the same direction of the grain, play slightly more slope. If the grain is in the opposite direction of the slope, then play slightly less break. When we talk about Barton Springs, we often talk about how many cubic feet per second (cfs) of water it's discharging. But what does that mean? cfs is a common way to measure how much water is flowing at a given time. 1 cfs of water comes out to about the size of an average beachball. This summer during the drought, Barton Springs got as low as only 16 cfs, so just a few beach balls a second. The springs' average flow since 1978 is 68 cfs, 4x higher than that lowest flow recording last year. #frontporchchatter episode 2. Finally received a substantial rain event today. All day cold rain. Recap 1. Received over an inch of slow rain today. Helps get our soils wet to help our fescues continue to germinate and mature. Unfortunately it is going to help poa annua continue to germinate. Make sure the pre-em is down! Cold temps are here, that is going to help our fescue seedlings harden off and mature. Now we can start going after broadleaf weeds- I like to wait as long as possible before attacking them. Nothing worse than setting back fescue before the cold.. 2. Fes-muda… what to do with a fescue and Bermuda mixed lawn. Couple of options. Commit and be patient but commit to the plan. 3. Golf- no hole in ones this week… but most overlooked stat and tip in golf. Greens in regulation. Focus on hitting more greens in regulation and watch your score go down. Get the ball on the ground on the putting surface as fast as you can and your scores will lower. 4. Thanks for the hat Jeremy Wade !
