?? Parliament Debates Court Delays Post-Section 21 At the second reading of the Renters' Rights Bill, MPs brought to light the issue of potential court delays following the removal of Section 21. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner MP asserted that the possession process in County Courts will be digitised to create a modern and efficient service, although no timeline has been given for this work to be completed. She also referenced the new compulsory Ombudsman service, through which she expects most disputes to be resolved at an early stage. Propertymark’s research paper, Reforming the PRS: Letting Agent Views of the Renters’ Rights Bill, demonstrates that 88% of ARLA Propertymark letting agents surveyed do not think the courts will have the resources they need after Section 21 is removed. To add more fuel to the fire, NYS recently transitioned to a new EI system, the EI Hub. However, the EI Hub isn't working. Per my colleagues currently working in EI, they haven't been able to bill since the beginning of this month. Additionally, the system is a gross HIPPA violation; providers from different practices/agencies can see other therapists' data/notes. Patient confidentiality is being violated. These issues with the new EI Hub and the delay in the rate increase will continue to worsen the EI crisis. Larger contract companies/agencies have money in the bank; they can hold on if they have to wait on reimbursement. However, smaller private practices and independent providers may run out of business. Therapists and the littlest New Yorkers deserve better. Today, November 1, 2024, many EI providers in NYS will cease treatment of EI patients in protest due to the billing issues from the disastrous roll-out of the EI-HUB. Although providers love and care about the children and families they serve, they are human beings first; they have families, bills, and other responsibilities. They should not work for an undetermined amount of time for free while waiting for NYS to rectify the billing issue. Any government-funded program doesn't pay the best, but to work for nothing at all will not be tolerated. NYS has been disinvesting in EI for years. Although many providers may continue treatment while they wait, many families will suffer as other providers leave. NYS is allowing this vital program to suffer and the buck stops with Governor Kathy Hochul. Disabled children matter!
