City of Victoria BC is actually reducing single use and creating circularity. They are not investing in failed plastics recycling, they are making bylaws that cost the city nothing and have a flurry of benefits. They are doing what is known and effective: reuse. “The Single-Use Items Reduction bylaw will come into effect over the next two years and contains two main components. The first piece requires businesses to hand out single-use items such as utensils, stir sticks, condiment packets and straws only upon request. That requirement comes into effect in December. The second aspect compels businesses to provide only reusable dishware – such as plates, cups and cutlery – to customers who are dining on-site at food-service spots. That part of the bylaw comes into force in March 2026 and doesn't apply to prepackaged foods and drinks." https://lnkd.in/giNmeqyW

Ouch! I still find it surprising how many manufacturing, retail and leisure & hospitality businesses (including big names) are not aware of packaging producer responsibility requirements, let alone comply with them. Unfortunately, ignorance is no defence and 20 years of non-compliance have just caught up with Budweiser Budvar (although the article appears to show the US Budweiser logo!). What's more, with the introduction of packaging extended producer responsibility, many businesses will have two separate packaging producer responsibility regimes to comply with. #sustainability #packaging

I generally don't agree with most of New York's over-regulated economy, but I'm 1000% behind this recent decision. There is so much unnecessary waste from non-reusable shampoo / soap bottles when simple, affordable, and yes - more sustainable solutions exist. It's been a personal pet peeve of mine for years - so much that in my own shower I installed a pump dispenser and fill it with Dr. Bronner's soap from a gallon sized bottle (unpaid plug - Dr. Bronner's is a family business committed to making socially and environmentally responsible products?of the highest quality, while dedicating profits to help make a better world). There is so much unnecessary plastic waste and we have the "technology" to curb at least 50% of it starting tomorrow (water bottles, home cleaners that could be sold as concentrate, etc.). Online retailers, lean in. I'm about to make you a lot of money. For all that is holy, stop sending your audience an ad for a specific item and making the clickthrough a page with multiple items that may or may not include the ad item. For instance, I saw a cool ad on Facebook for Grove that talked about having a sustainable fridge. I never thought about all of the plastic that's used for the single purpose of preserving food and was intrigued. I wanted to learn more SPECIFICALLY about the items shown in the ad (e.g. reusable fruit covers and reusable bowl covers). But guess what happened when I clicked? I was taken here (https://lnkd.in/gCDjG3py) - a page with a bunch of related products - but not the products you served me an ad for. Now, you're making me work for it. After four scrolls and not seeing a single item that the original ad showed, my response was just to close the tab. I don't mean to pick on Grove because this happens with probably 75% of the ads I click on. And the worst part is someone is going to say "These ads don't work."

We applaud breweries worldwide for their efforts in transitioning to more sustainable operations. Family-owned Anderson Valley Brewing Company not only uses nitrogen to partly replace industrial CO2 and lower their carbon footprint, but also invests in educating other breweries how to operate nitrogen generators. In addition to these innovative practices, supplementing CO2 recovery with nitrogen can completely eliminate the need to purchase industrial CO2, significantly increase profits, lower costs, and enhance overall sustainability and quality of beverages.
