Thank you for sharing Rachel. Your offer to connect hiring managers to others on campus is an option hiring managers don’t consider. Career Services and Handshake are free ways to recruit candidates. Alumni and current students. Connecting to the Dean of a department that teaches the coursework you’re seeking and/or connecting with the Professors and instructors is another option. Consider connecting with these people when you don’t have openings and offer to be a guest speaker. If the students meet you and remember you, they may pursue opportunities at your company.

Why is a registered dietitian attending a career fair important? Because In 2012 there were 24,205 students enrolled in dietetic education programs. In 2022 there were only 16,327 In April 2013 there were 223 internship spots that went unfilled. In April 2023 there were almost 1900 unfilled spots. Change starts with the younger generations. Walk in to any elementary, middle, or high school classroom and ask the kids if they know what a dietitian is; I’d bet >75% will have no idea. I never heard the word until my sophomore year of college. Most ADULTS have never even heard of a “dietitian.” I strongly believe that lack of public awareness is a problem compounding the bigger issues pressing the profession. #dietetics #registereddietitian #nutrition #education #publicawareness #nutritioneducation #students

Top Tips for New College Students: 1. Get to know your TAs - A lot of TAs are twice as likely to help you with things you are struggling with if you take the time to get to know them 2. Really the syllabus in its entirety for every class - a lot of syllabi will include important information about policies and deadlines that professors may not necessarily announce at the start of the semester 3. Befriend an upperclassman - people who have been there longer know more than you and it is always good to have someone more experienced to get advice from when you run into a tricky situation (you definitely will) 4. Go to the review sessions when they are offered - they exist for a reason, there will always be concepts most people struggle with more than others, and the more prepared you are for the exams, the better you will do 5. Like with the TAs, introduce yourself to your professors - professors are more likely to grant extensions or offer extra help to people who they are familiar with in person rather than just another student on the roster 6. Go to the career fair - yes it is overwhelming but they are the #1 way to get internships and make connections while in college 7. No all-nighters, no days without food - not providing your body with basic needs is a good way to burn yourself out quickly and perform poorly on exams, get some sleep instead of cramming, you will need it

#LovelyProfessionalUniversity Igniting enthusiasm among students Enhancing academics and placements interest among students requires a multifaceted approach. Implementing engaging, practical curriculum and hands-on learning experiences can ignite enthusiasm for academics. Offering internships, industry projects, and mentoring programs can bridge the gap between theory and practice, making learning relevant to career goals. Additionally, organizing workshops, career fairs, and alumni talks can provide insights into various career paths. Encouraging a growth mindset, fostering a supportive learning environment, and offering personalized career counseling can motivate students to excel academically and prepare strategically for placements, ultimately leading to a well-rounded and future-ready student body.

“Communication is about what is received, not what is intended. If there is a gap between what you are saying and what they are hearing, you have to find a new way to say it.” Saw the above quote in Atomic Habits author James Clear’s 3-2-1 newsletter and it got me thinking. The truth hurts: Our messages often aren’t landing. Communication's true test? What they hear, not what you say. The gap between intent and reception is where we fail to get our point of views across. All is not lost though. Consider: ? Tailoring your language to your audience ? Reading body language and facial cues ? Asking for feedback to ensure understanding ? Using analogies to clarify complex ideas Mastery lies in bridging this divide between intent and reception. Find new paths. Speak their language. P.S. What's your go-to tactic for ensuring your message is received as intended? Pictured: Speaking at Prince Holding Group’s career fair for Chen Zhi Scholars held two weekends ago. We are glad to be able to offer close to 50 paid internships for 300 of our scholars.
