I'd like to discuss Newton Room—an organisation with Scandinavian roots at the forefront of transforming STEM education and shaping the future of learning. Newton Rooms are where hands-on learning meets cutting-edge technology. From deep dives into mathematics and coding to unravelling the mysteries of energy and aviation, Newton’s curriculum-based modules are there to inspire the next generation of innovators with new ideas and educational and career pathways, from an early age. Newton isn't confined to borders: mobile rooms bring STEM education anywhere in the world. They are creating innovative yet practical learning spaces with just a pair of expandable containers. Let's talk impact. In 2022, nearly 60,000 students in 13 countries experienced Newton educational programming. Newton is on a mission to continue to expand its reach, and they're inviting organisations and forward-thinking donors to join the cause. Your support isn't just funding rooms; it's shaping futures. By contributing to Newton, you're helping create more learning spaces, inspire young minds, and be part of a global movement that transforms education. Whether you're an organisation committed to empowering the next generation or an individual ready to make a lasting impact, Newton invites you to be part of this journey. When you sponsor a child at La Casa de Esperanza's Charter School, you are directly impacting a student's education. Funds raised through the Sponsor a Child campaign help us cover costs not fully funded through the state, such as our after-school programming, LEAP. Leap (La Casa de Esperanza After School Program) provides students with an hour of academic support after school. This gives students individualized support and an opportunity to work in small groups to improve in the areas where they are struggling. Your contributions will also help us cover programs such as Special Education, STEM: Project Lead the Way, and our Math and Reading Interventionist, who provide one-on-one support ensuring our students have the tools they need to succeed. Help our students be all they can be when they grow up, whether it’s a scientist and a doctor, a teacher, or even a superhero! To sponsor a child now, click the link below or contact Maria Wadina for more information at (262) 832-1542 or [email protected]. You can also support this great cause by sharing this post with your network. #SponsorAChild #WisconsinNonProfits #WisconsinCharterSchools #SupportLocalNonProfits

What does our holistic approach look like in practice? ? We believe to be truly impactful, youth empowerment needs to be holistic. That’s why educate. scholarships are a lot more than “just” a scholarship. Our youth empowerment model includes: ?? Engagement in weekly youth programmes: every Saturday, our scholars participate in activities focused on technology and STEM, art, sport, environmental protection, and youth rights, gaining new skills, a sense of belonging, and creating impact in their communities. ?? Mental health support: the challenges that come with growing up in a context of poverty and (often, in Honduras) violence, can lead to serious mental health challenges. We make sure our scholars have access to psychological support if and when necessary. ?? Academic accompaniment: being the first in your family to attend high school (let alone university!) is not always easy, and there’s often no one to ask questions to at home if you don’t understand something. We keep track of students’ progress and make sure to find academic support when students are struggling. ?? Personal development & leadership workshops: Once a month at our Youth Center, all scholars participate in workshops on topics related to personal development (e.g. self esteem, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence etc.) ?? Community projects and support for public schools: projects like school libraries, donations of resources, teacher trainings, and our Youth Center all help to strengthen the public education system from within, driving long-lasting change at the institutional level. ?? And of course, the scholarships themselves, which provide access to high school and university education for youth for whom these opportunities are out of reach. Holistic support leads to deeper and more transformational impact. Help us support 30 high school scholarships in 2024 by donating on Giving Tuesday (November 28) or signing up as a monthly donor today: https://lnkd.in/eniakUpt #honduras #scholarships #holisticapproach #ruraleducation #youthempowerment #givingtuesday

?? Education Spotlight: Ending the Double Disadvantage Thrilled to share insights from a recent report by the Education Commission of the States that sheds light on the disparities between low-income and high-income families and their exposure to STEM resources. It's crucial for us to stay informed and work towards "closing the gap." ?? Key Findings: Studies are based on schools with 25% or less vs. 75% or more children living in poverty. 1. At the high school level, there was a 14% gap in schools that offered AP Calculus AB and a 40% gap in schools that offered AP Calculus BC. Can you guess which school provided more AP Calculus classes? ??*Note: Calculus AB covers the first semester of calculus only (Calculus I), while Calculus BC covers the first two semesters or a whole year of calculus (Calculus I and II courses combined).* 2. At the 4th-grade level, only 31% of the low-income schools have space to conduct science labs. Of that 31%, only 43% of them are able to supply the equipment and supplies for the labs. 3. There was a 47% difference between the two types of schools in whether or not they provided any physics classes and a 36% difference for AP Physics classes. At HYES, we know these disparities in #stemeducationforkids are happening right here in Houston, and we want to be a part of real change! Our desires and passions are to bring STEM into these schools as well as financial literacy and break this horrible cycle of poverty in our communities. If you would like to be a mentor, donate, volunteer, or share the same passions as us, feel free to reach out and let's CLOSE THE GAP ONE RESOURCE AT A TIME! ?? As a #parent the decision of where to send my kids to school has been most revealing of my underlying personal values on individual good and broader social good. Do I send my kids to the public school based on my zip code - like my parents did? Or do I send them to a public magnet or charter school based on standardized test scores or my gut intuition that my 4 year old wants to focus on art, STEM, NASA, a foreign language, music, history, the greeks, environmentalism, social justice, or individualism via a Montessori curriculum? Do they go to a school based on sexual identity? I have so many choices, and these are just public schools! Or I could continue spending the same amount and more as what I have already been paying for private corporate daycare? Just transfer these funds to a parochial or private school, right? Perhaps my kids wanna get a deeper grasp on religion? Or perhaps a non-denominational private school with the smallest student-to-teacher ratios, and whose graduates are most likely to say they've gone to an Ivy League private college? Or I could also quit my job and homeschool them! So many options. Such a personal decision that will affect the life of my offspring, f...o...r...e...v...e...r! But given my social conscience I wonder how will my decision impact my community? Do I "punish" my kids by having them be a martyr for my social justice values and go to the local "crappy" public school? Or do I embrace my luck and privilege by sending my kid to the best private school in driving distance from our house? If they don't get into Harvard - how will they ever get a job? Impact the world? I gotta play the odds, right? It's not like I won't still be paying property taxes for the local public schools. I'm still supporting the community just not in-person. And I could fundraise for scholarships to the private school - that way everyone will have the chance to attend this private school with less than 400 students across k-12 grade....wait the maths don't add up here. Anyway, you get my drift. Still I could double down and "own" my community's public school, warts and all. If everyone could send their kids elsewhere what becomes of the community school? Are we already creating the future winners and losers of society based on our kid's school choice? Maybe I'm overreacting. But then why am I debating spending 30-50K per year to send my kid through grade school? It's a hard decision. And it's a decision that collectively impacts my kid and the kids of my community. The very fact that I have this decision and am even contemplating it is a reflection of my privilege, to my kid's privilege. Attached is the annual tuition for a US private school. Why do we decide to send our kids to these schools? Is it because we know it will make them better people, smarter people, cleverer people, healthier people, safer people, less anxious people, savvier people, more creative people, wealthier people, more impactful people?

Cofounder The Unifly Collective | Acumen Fellow | Young India Fellow| CBS | Enabling people to be on a path to achieve their full potential!
"Saumya, you’ve set the bar so low, that even an ant can’t crawl under it.” These words from my first boss still haunt me.? “Saumya, you have time and talent, both on your side. I am confident in you, go take the leap. You are a rockstar!” These words from a subsequent boss still motivate me! I carry both voices in my head even 8 years later – one that completely shattered me and one that still lifts me up. We all have had authority figures who either cultivated or destroyed our self-belief. Maybe your parents always told you you aren’t good enough, maybe your teacher told you that you’d be nothing in life, maybe your guardian always belittled you. Authority figures, especially during our formative years such as school principals,, shape what we believe about ourselves. At Barefoot Edu Foundation, we focus on building the capacity of school principals to lead with empathy, provide enriching experiences, and offer holistic education. For the past year, we have worked with 25 school principals in Solan, Himachal Pradesh to help students believe they can be changemakers and support them in initiating their own community projects. Mrs Meenu, a school principal in Solan has instilled this self belief in her students by enabling them to take leadership roles in schools such as setting up a student led library and has actively cultivated a positive school culture where students feel supported and valued. We now need your support to expand this impact to the entire state of Himachal Pradesh. Our goal is to enable 15,000 principals to become the inspiring role models we all need in our childhood who make education meaningful for children right now! By contributing Rs 1600, you can enable as many as 10 school leaders on a transformative journey of school improvement. Click on the link to donate https://r.give.do/MbsXhUJc. Every contribution matters!
