Combining mechanical and chemical recycling technologies can help recycle a wider variety of plastics, moving us closer to a circular economy. SUNTORY BEVERAGE & FOOD EUROPE collaboration with CARBIOS, a leader in biotechnology, has resulted in the world's first Orangina prototype bottle made from enzymatically recycled plastic. Carbios’ technology allows for the unlimited recycling of all types of PET waste, including complex or previously unrecyclable materials, while maintaining the quality of virgin plastic. To achieve a circular economy, such partnerships are crucial but require supportive legislation. Now, after years of discussions and collaborations within technical workstreams, #4evergreen represents the expertise of the whole value chain, analysing all the key steps in the packaging lifecycle: assessing the recyclability of packaging products, designing for circularity, and setting standards for high-quality collection and sorting.
