Reflecting on 7 years of departure from my Skillbridge experience: 7 years ago this weekend, I wrapped up 4 months of a Skillbridge internship with Spartan Race that gave me the confidence to lead projects in civilian world. I worked with Emily Downey-Yamada and her team, and Joe De Sena to dive in and make a race happen in Tokyo. It was a perfect storm of starting out with an end state and very little other details. We navigated so many challenges and brought 5,000 smiles to muddy faces from 37 countries in a phenomenal Spartan Sprint experience. I didn't know then that I'd meet Phil Randazzo, Laura Gassner Otting, Daniel Alarik, and so many other amazing and positive people who can just set the world around them on a higher level. I learned the power of possibilities - and the fun that comes in the white space. Since then, I've talked about those Skillbridge experiences with others, and I had a wildly unique experience due to its lack of structure. I loved it, but maybe it's not for every one. And, maybe in 2017, the program was so underutilized that my lack of structure could exist. Today, it seems like Skillbridge could still grow, but has EXPLODED since I was the first from Japan (...can someone tell me if Skillbridge seems accessible to overseas servicemembers now?). Regardless, here are my key takeaways on reflection: 1. Embrace the white space! 2. "You aren't out of your depth, you're out of your lexicon." - LGO (you can't know the impact those authentic words have had on my life) 3. Do burpees!

Excited to share my journey as a Junior Developer intern at ReSkill Calgary! ?? Every Monday, we dive into development sessions that are both challenging and rewarding. Last Monday, we explored the fascinating world of personalities by taking a personality test. I was thrilled to discover more about myself and my working style. Here's a snapshot of my personality profile: ?? Conscientious Blue: I value thinking before speaking and am mindful of my words to avoid misinterpretation. Even in chaotic situations, I maintain a level head and use common sense to navigate dilemmas. ?? Commanding Red: I keep my feelings separate from decision-making and ensure my emotions don't sway my judgment. Setting and achieving ambitious goals is what drives me. ?? Empowering Green: While less dominant, this energy helps me support and empower others effectively. ?? Inspiring Yellow: Interestingly, I rarely use this energy, as I focus more on present issues rather than future possibilities. A big thank you to Wunmi Adekanmbi, MSc., PMP, Prosci, Nero O., Nova Zeraati M.Sc, Margo Purcell, and everyone at ReSkill Calgary for their support and guidance. Your insights and mentorship are invaluable! Looking forward to continuing this incredible journey and growing as a developer. ?? #ReSkillCalgary #Internship #JuniorDeveloper #PersonalityTest #ProfessionalGrowth #DevelopmentSessions

This month, I celebrated my 20th birthday. {not gonna lie this month has been one of the toughest months of my life too :) } But here's what I have learned through the process and to be honest I am still a student, still learning. On reaching this milestone, I’m struck by how much growth and learning has shaped my journey. I remember turning 18 and feeling the weight of expectations and the excitement of new beginnings. My college life began with its fair share of challenges— through a new environment, discovering my passions, and facing setbacks that felt like roadblocks. Each of these experiences, though daunting at the time, has been a crucial part of my growth. One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is the importance of enjoying one's own company ( to respect and to love yourself regardless ). There were moments when failure seemed like the end, but looking back, I realize these were the moments that taught me the most about perseverance and self-belief. For instance, when I faced a tough period and felt disheartened, it was these setbacks that ignited my drive to push forward and strive for my goals with renewed determination. Another lesson has been the significance of genuine connections. Whether through my involvement in various societies here at DU or my role at various internships, I've come to appreciate the power of building meaningful relationships. These connections have not only provided support but have also opened doors to incredible opportunities. Turning 20 has been a moment of gratitude. It’s a reminder that the journey of self-discovery and growth is ongoing, and every experience, good or bad, contributes to who we become. Here’s to respecting the future with optimism and continuing to learn and grow every day. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey so far. Cheers to the next chapter! #PersonalGrowth #LifeLessons #Turning20 #SelfDiscovery #Resilience #GrowthMindset #JourneyOfGrowth #LearningFromFailure #ProfessionalJourney #MeaningfulConnections #MilestoneMoments #Reflections #CareerDevelopment #StudentLife #FutureGoals

Rough estimates… ??? >3,328 hours of my own training >12,480 hours training others >1,248 hours of meal prepping, planning, and tracking >4,056 hours of formal education (4 certifications, 1 diploma, 38 graduate credits) ?? > $41,000 on formal education >$5,760 being coached (physical and Nutrition) > $1,800 in competitions > $1,540 in personal equipment ?? 14 gyms to train 4 gyms to work 2 internships ???? +346lbs on SBD ?? Embrace the Road to Mastery ?? ?? “How long does it take to get good?” ?? ?? We all start somewhere, armed with dreams and aspirations. But the path to mastery is an adventure through time and dedication. ?? ?? It’s easy to believe that success will come overnight. We want instant results and quick wins. Greatness isn’t born in seconds; it’s cultivated over seasons of effort. ?? ??? Hours turn into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. Here’s the secret: Each moment spent honing your craft, every late night, every challenge overcome, they’re all building blocks of expertise. ??? ?? Progress is your North Star. Tracking how far you’ve come and acknowledging the hurdles you’ve conquered is as crucial as setting your sights on the horizon. ?? ?? Let this remind you: Don’t rush the journey; embrace it. The time it takes to master is the time spent refining skills, gaining wisdom, and becoming extraordinary. ?? ?? It’s not just about where you are; it’s about how far you’ve come. Keep pushing forward, one step at a time. Your destination may be distant, but every stride gets you closer. ?? ?? Stay committed, stay focused, and let the journey shape you into the incredible version you’re destined to be. ?? #MasteryInProgress #Dedication #progressmatters
