NEW POLL: American voters are approaching the presidential election with deep unease about what could follow, including the potential for political violence, attempts to overturn the election results and its broader implications for democracy, according to a new poll.

Third Party and Independent Voters Are 2024’s Big Wild Card. Early 2024 polls have shown a massive uptick in possible willingness to vote for a nonmajor-party candidate, along with low-approval and favorability numbers for the likely major-party candidates, Biden and Trump.

As Americans head to the polls on November 5, 2024, the nation holds its breath for a tightly contested election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. With polling data suggesting a close race, results may face delays, especially in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, where legal challenges and recounts could extend the process. Various swing states have distinct counting processes that may impact result timing. For instance, Georgia expects rapid initial reporting, while states like Nevada could count mail-in ballots until November 9. Over 100 pre-election lawsuits have already been filed, primarily addressing voter eligibility and mail-in ballot regulations, adding complexity to an already high-stakes election. State-specific protocols and a commitment to verified counting reflect the meticulous approach to ensure transparency and accuracy across the country. The election’s outcome, dependent on securing 270 electoral votes, will shape U.S. domestic and foreign policy. In 2020, voters turned out in record numbers to make our voices heard. But a handful of extremists decided to try to overturn the will of the people through a fake slate of electors. We held Wisconsin's fake electors accountable in court, but election denialism is still alive and well. Having lost both the election and the attempt to overthrow it, many of these extremists doubled down on attempts to silence us by erecting new barriers to voting and blocking attempts to have free and fair elections and our longer-term aims to realize a true democracy. Now, those same extremists are repeating old lies and inventing new ones in an attempt to cancel the votes of people who don’t look, live, or love like them and sow doubts about the results of an election. But we know that in America, voters decide elections. And we should look forward to this election with the confidence that the results will reflect what the people choose. https://lnkd.in/ghtZqtrd

IMO one of the core ways politics strays back into the "sanity" lane is via constituent communication. Each election cycle the landscape becomes more and more clear in that whoever is the best "communicator" will have a massive election advantage: "About six-in-ten Americans say that if they contacted their member of the U.S. House of Representatives with a problem it is either not very likely (40%) or not likely at all (21%) they would get help addressing it. Just 7% say their representative would be very likely to help, while 30% say this would be somewhat likely."

In America, we don't really have conventional election observers, and so we don't really have conventional election observation reports, but this report is about as close as we get, and is a deep dive into the problems with reconciling Georgia's (the state, not the country) 2020 election results. We already have a majority of citizens who doubt the 2024 elections will be free and fair, and until we can institute a transparent and verifiable election process, I'm afraid voters will increasingly doubt the legitimacy of our elected representatives. https://lnkd.in/ea6TDPjb
