When organizations try to avoid investing in emergency management type positions and rely solely on the federal government and/or onerous bureaucratic processes to be "resilient" and "recover" from disasters, the day comes when that becomes part of the problem, not the solution. Wisconsin is quickly realizing that, due to the continued underfunding of the State's disaster fund, at a time when it is requested more frequently.
Additionally, 2/3 of the lead county/tribal EM's in the state have turned over at least once since COVID and now we're at a spot where more disasters are happening, less experienced individuals are handling the local response, and the trifecta is that training is taking an equal hit due to less federal grant funding.
Change is needed, and WEMA wants to be the leader of it

WEMA leadership will be presenting a proposal for significant state investment in emergency management at our next WEMA Wednesday event! We will look to partner with various organizations to help our state elected leadership see the value in the proposal
