We've even heard from numerous leaders about how a heart-centered approach not only improved performance and culture at work, but how it transformed their lives at home. "Heart-centered leadership training is multi-modal and addresses all the key dimensions of interaction that are vital to great leadership. It includes examining the emotional state you're reflecting to your team, becoming fluid in body language, vocalization, cognitive responses, and in essence, becoming expert in reading the room – or the zoom room – to generate and guide productive exchanges," says Michelle L. Over the past two weeks we've presented on leadership at several conferences and retreats. At all of these events we've asked the participants what makes school leadership messy? ? Their answers probably won't shock you. ? What these types of questions and their responses highlight, is what is meaningful, and stressful - and messy - about leadership. Take a look at the words. Yes there's a little about funding. There's a smattering of things related to management and duties. But the vast majority of things that makes leadership messy is the people. How we interact with others and how they interact with us (and others) is a core part of our role, and also what can make it maddening, frustrating, and also pleasant, joyful, and rewarding. ? Being a leader is more about navigating personalities, than following a manual. It's more about finding shared purpose and meaning, than it is about standing firm. It's more about adjusting to the circumstances and situation, than it is about sticking to the plan. As you start to think about the new schoolyear, think about how you lead and how you interact with others. That's the real key to effective leadership.

Yesterday, we conducted our inaugural meeting for the 11th Annual I&T Leadership Conference. Prior to initiating the Teams session, I experienced some apprehension. This year marks my role as the conference leader, a responsibility I have assumed after observing and learning from exceptional leaders over the past three years. Their guidance has imparted invaluable lessons on orchestrating successful conferences. Notably, this year introduces a significant structural change: transitioning from a longstanding model of co-leadership to a single lead position with three chairs overseeing distinct areas. The decision to alter our approach after a decade of co-leadership stemmed from a desire to provide greater opportunities for conference participants to assume leadership roles. By leading teams of 2-3 individuals within specialized areas, they will cultivate their skills. Next year, one among them will step into the lead role and I will assume a mentorship one. My objective is to ensure that new members grasp the essence of the conference this year, enabling them to confidently lead as one of the chairs the following year. With continued development of leadership and event management skills, these individuals can ascend through the ranks, contributing to the ongoing success of the I&T Leadership Conference. Following the conclusion of our inaugural meeting, I am immensely grateful for the cohesive team that has been assembled. The course also focused in on the five exemplary practices. Which are modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, enabling others to act, and encouraging the heart. We discussed how to use each practice to become an authentic leader. Authentic leaders establish and exemplify the guidelines and expectations they want others to adhere to. They have the authority to motivate others to bring about change or move forward. They confront and overcome obstacles that could impede their progress and assist others in acting through their actions and words. Ultimately, authentic leaders motivate individuals by recognizing their strengths, weaknesses, and endeavors to accomplish their assignments and objectives. They provide feedback during the process and are open to receiving feedback and criticism from others. The common characteristics throughout my cloverleaf assessments were consistency, logic, and fair leadership environments. My Short-term leadership goal is to continue to grow as a leader by continuing in the Southern Leaders program, participating in alternative breaks, and becoming more active through Serve912. I also want to just become a leader by advocating for different things in my community. Long-term leadership goal: My leadership goal 5-7 years from now is to be a highly accomplished Child Life Specialist and be in a position where I can train those fresh out of college. I want to be able to use my strengths and wisdom to guide them as smoothly as possible into their career.
