It's time to highlight another new Legacy Level Member! Meet Paul Fall, a recent Flagship Class 37 graduate. Paul retired from the USAR in SEP2017, after 30 years of combined active and reserve service. He is in his 23rd year with SAIC, and is starting to see full retirement in the not-too-distant future. Paul lives in Harvest, AL, with his wife, Margaret, and their 18 month old chocolate cocker spaniel, little Otto. His favorite part of his LGH experience was getting to know others who are engaged in the greater Huntsville community. Thank you, Paul, for your support of LGH and our community!

From Navy Supply Corps Officer to Multifamily Investor. Life is full of surprises and unexpected turns! Five years ago, if you had asked me what I planned to do after retiring from the military, entrepreneurship or real estate investing would have been nowhere on my radar. But here I am, after five years of: - Educating myself in financial literacy, - Networking with incredible business leaders, - Engaging with hundreds of investors, - Witnessing growth in my own bank accounts, - Making a positive impact in the community. I am deeply grateful for these experiences. They have profoundly reshaped my plans for the next chapter and my outlook on life. As I transition into my "retirement," it's funny to realize that life won't be slowing down. Instead, it's full speed ahead to create bigger impacts! PS. Whether you are retired or still serving, Whether you have 1 year or 20 years remaining, time is now to plan your financial future. I am committed to sharing the lessons learned with the military community. Let's connect!

The SSB process remains a “black hole” of frustration for too many service members. As those who have navigated it know, submitting a case often means 12-18 months of silence, with no insight into where it’s going or who is handling it at each stage, yes even when it crosses various U.S. Navy JAG Corps’ offices. In the end, members receive only a “yes” or “no” without any legal analysis explaining the decision. This leaves service members in limbo, their lives and careers on hold—some, like CAPT Pitkin, even forced into premature retirement while awaiting answers. CAPT Pitkin’s experience shows us three important lessons: 1. Transparency and Efficiency: The US Navy owes its people a clearer, faster process, with insight into how decisions are made. Accountability and understanding at every stage would be a critical improvement. 2. The Value of Support Systems: Stories like these remind us that who stands with us matters. Let’s be shipmates who help each other navigate these storms. 3. Resilience and Accountability: In the toughest moments, we see who we are and what we stand for. CAPT Pitkin’s post is a call to push for fairer, more transparent systems in service of those who serve. Our servicemembers deserve this, and we have a responsibility to demand better from “Big Navy.” ***And for those of you know Blaine Pitkin , this is a picture of him smiling. He’s very happy, as you can clearly tell. ***
???In July, the Navy corrected a mistake it made in January of 2023. It was allowed to make this mistake in fact, presumably, due to good people who did not stand up and ensure the Navy indeed did not make it. Those people I’m referring to were senior officers sitting the Surface LDO portion of the FY24 O6 Board. What I am talking about of course is my initial non-select to the grade of Captain. After a 19 month long fight, I received word that a Special Selection Board had indeed selected me. While I have many reasons why and who I believe made the mistakes, the takeaway for everyone in uniform and Civil Service is, it should never happen this way.? ???Conversely, the biggest lesson I learned was who you can call on when you have found yourself overboard and needing a lifering. In putting together my “fight” I reached out to many people whom I revered and trusted. To my surprise, there were some who looked the other way. They know who they are and I hope they too learn from me saying it. Luckily, I will say there were quite a few Shipmates, fellow officers and great American’s that wanted to be first in line to help me. To them I am eternally grateful. It underscores why I went to them in the first place. There is no order to these names, they all helped immeasurably. Andrew Peterson, after helping me with a Joint letter, and out of sheer dumb luck, put me in touch with LCDR Jordan J. Foley. JJ was a godsend and gave much of his time to help me after the Navy had got his board wrong as well. Fred Pyle and Daniel Grieco provided the advice and assistance I needed at the right time. Mike Freeman, PE gave me the Joint assistance that spoke the honest truth. Richie Enriquez had the conn and steered me clear of the shoals. Jeff Bernard kept me grounded and spoke with needed advice, opposition and facts. Brian Fort held himself in the batter’s box warmed up ready to come in when called. CAPT Hayes Larsen provided the JAG top cover like only he could. Luis Rodriguez staved off the demons as they drew ever closer, and believe me, those demons made their rounds. These people all knew how devastating this was for me and my family.? ???In the end, my retirement was rescinded and I was returned to Active Duty. The travesty is, I missed out on a year of leading officers and sailors alike. A year of solving whichever of the Navy’s problems were being thrown at me. Spent a year of my life with the "pause" button firmly on.??? ???Should anyone have any questions or encounter someone who believes the Navy was incorrect on the non-selection from a board or any injustice for that matter, I implore you to please give them my contact information. I am now well versed in the Special Selection Board process and holding the Navy accountable for its failures. I would be honored at the opportunity to help anyone who needs it. In the end, right triumphs over wrong and the ship is righted again but for a very short time. In the storm, we learn who we are.?

Great insight to plan for the future while working towards financial freedom in retirement.
Award Winning Retirement Consultant | Speaker | Author | Combat Veteran Army Officer empowering career professionals and business owners to retire at any age with a Retirement Readiness income account.
Happy Winning In Wealth Wednesday! Here are 7 signs that indicate you're on the right track with your retirement positioning: 1) You've started saving early: ?? If you began contributing to your retirement accounts in your 20s or 30s, you're giving your money more time to grow through the power of compound interest. ?? 2) You're consistently saving a portion of your income: ?? Regularly setting aside a percentage of your earnings (ideally 10-15% or more) for retirement is a strong sign that you're prioritizing your financial future. ?? 3) You're taking advantage of creating a retirement plan to supplement or replace social security because there's a guaranteed 40-110% gap in retirement depending on how well you plan. ?? If your company offers a 401(k) with matching contributions, you're making the most of this opportunity by contributing enough to receive the full match if you do not decide to design your own private pension that follows you to each employer. ?? 4) You have a diversified investment portfolio: ?? Spreading your investments across various asset classes (stocks, bonds, real estate, etc.) can help minimize risk and maximize potential returns over the long term. ?? 5) You're managing debt effectively: ?? Keeping consumer debt (like credit card balances) low and focusing on paying off high-interest loans can free up more money to save for retirement. ?? 6) You have an emergency fund: ?? Maintaining a separate savings account with 3-6 months' worth of living expenses can help you avoid tapping into your retirement funds during unexpected financial setbacks. ?? 7) You're working with a financial professional: ???????? Collaborating with a Retirement Consultant or financial advisor can provide valuable guidance and help you create a personalized plan to achieve your retirement goals. ?? If you're exhibiting these signs, congratulations! You're well on your way to a comfortable retirement. ?? Keep up the good work! ?? If not, reach out to us at https://Shateka.com. Remember ?? Reflections on Transition and Retirement: After a productive conversation with a mentor, I found myself pondering two questions: "What aspirations do you harbor?" and "In what endeavors will you find true satisfaction?" As a military veteran, I realized that these were questions I rarely had to consider. My focus had always been on contributing to the greater good, serving my community, and fostering growth in others. Now, as I transition into retirement, I am faced with the challenge of discovering a path that allows me to continue making a positive impact while prioritizing my family. It's a daunting task, but I'm grateful for the tools I've received to navigate what initially seemed like straightforward queries. I've come to realize that true fulfillment comes from serving others and aiding them in becoming their best selves. It's not just about enhancing their professional capabilities but also positively impacting their personal lives. I look forward to discovering new ways to continue doing so in this next chapter of my life. #militaryveterans #military #retirement #transitioningveterans #service #growth
