???? Every lawyer has probably felt it: work till late nights, endless emails, and a sense that there is always more to be done. Burnout creeps up slowly, and we often recognize it too late: when the energy and motivation to work are below zero, and the only way to restore them is to take a long professional break. The good news is that burnout can be prevented if you follow a few simple rules: ?? Delegate tasks More working hours don’t equal more value. If you have an opportunity to get a certain task done by someone else, use it. Hire an assistant,?use contract drafting tools and AI to help you with routine tasks. You’re not an all-in-one machine.? ?? Say “No” without guilt Helping people is a noble job, but you cannot help everyone. Taking on every request only makes you exhausted. Focus on the cases that are interesting and can really contribute to your expertise. ??? Check your calendar If you see that during a working week you have no gap in the schedule for a meeting with friends or your hobby, it’s time to reconsider the priorities. ?? Find time to recharge Block time in your day — no phone, no screens. Infoglut exhausts our minds by stuffing them with unnecessary information all the time. As a result, it gets harder for you to concentrate on your job, and you waste more time procrastinating.?Even 20 minutes of headspace can reset your energy.?? ?? Celebrate your wins Big victories take time. Let yourself feel good about the progress you’re making. Every time you win a case or sign an important contract, praise yourself for it with something that brings you pleasure: a small purchase, a day off, or a good movie. Don’t turn your work into a burden that brings no pleasure. ?????????????? ???????????????? - ???? ?????? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???? ???????? ???? ????????????? I shared my current answer to that question with a group recently, in quite direct language. To be honest, I was expecting some push back or surprise. Got none. Since then I've spoken with many different people. And no disagreement yet. I'm fully aware that I'm in my own echo chamber, so let's get out of it. Do YOU think the way we work is broken? Or that our ???????????????????????? ???????? ???????? is broken? Retiring early has never been on my radar, even at my most burnt out. Largely because I actually enjoy what I do, but also because I believe the right work, done in the right way, is essential to our enjoyment, wellbeing, legacy and sense of meaning/purpose. And yet, presenteeism is on the up. Burnout too. We are facing record levels of mental dis-ease. it's like we are simultaneously too tired and disenchanted to work and yet compelled to #productivityhack our way to more of it. I'm here for a conversation, so no poll. Drop your answer into comments and lets see what's going on. Do you think the way we work is broken? ? Yes? ? No? ? Not sure? ? Haven't thought about it? Let's go!

60% of employees now report feeling emotionally detached at work. Worse still, Gallup have also found that 19% are (downright) miserable. GAH. Comedian George Carlin once quipped, "Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar." LOLs. But what does it feel like to be emotionally detached? ?? Like you don't care? ?? Like succeeding or failing are unimportant? ?? Like just showing up is enough? ?? Like it's hard to empathise with others? ?? Like you'd rather avoid people, situations or activities? Nobody wants to feel like this. It's a consequence of overwork, mental health challenges, feeling under valued and / or exhaustion. It's time to reflect on how to buck this trend. Have you ever felt this way? Image: Vanessa walks down the street looking pretty emotionally detached. She hasn't slept properly for about three days as her son has been struggling to sleep whilst on a new medication. She has huge bags under eyes. She's forgotten what she enjoys in life, how to find joy, like if the business fails she wouldn't even care. Fortunately, a good nights sleep sorted it all out.

I was lying when I said I was busy. I was lying to others and, more importantly, to myself. In reality, its pure cluelessness and mismanaged time. And this is true no matter how meticulous, organized and put together we like to think of ourselves as. The article by #TimDenning 'Things About Corporate Life No One Tells You' crisply captures how hard workers often get the worst results. The corporate world offers myriad positive lessons, but if one eclipses the others, it's the propensity to unnecessarily complicate tasks. It can be argued that time mismanagement, overcomplication, and stockpiling tasks are personality flaws. Yet, paradoxically, these traits packaged differently, are often embellished, encouraged, and appreciated in corporate settings. Reflecting on my previous post about busyness, constantly juggling tasks and functioning at an unhealthy pace was equivalent to looking at your goal ahead and darting in the opposite direction. The all-so-familiar checklist: - A vision to work towards - check - Completing a laundry list of tasks - check - Results to justify the work - check - Rewards to encourage more work - check - Holidays and time offs to recharge - check - Ahead of where you were a year ago - check Still feels hollow and incomplete. In servicing this checklist, we often end up being oblivious to the toll it takes on our mental health. We examine everything through a microscope, blind to the bigger picture. And in most cases, the process of getting out of this hole eerily mirrors the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally, acceptance. Once we acknowledge something is off, its all about stepping back, way back, hitting the reset button and keeping things simple. #MentalHealth #CorporateLife #Simplicity #Quode

? How do you manage a toxic work environment? In your life journey, you will often encounter people who challenge your patience and resilience—toxic relationships that leave you feeling drained. Your best intentions might sometimes get overshadowed, pulling you into actions you would rather not associate with. While managing toxicity in personal spaces might be a tad easier, handling it in the workplace brings complexities. Here's why: Family ties often encourage patience. Friendships give us the liberty of distance. But in professional spaces, you are bound by different codes of conduct. ?? Limit your interaction with toxic people: If you encounter a toxic colleague, avoid unnecessary interactions. A brief greeting is sufficient. If the conversation shifts to a negative space, control your pace of speech. Slow, deliberate responses can help calm your mind and avoid negativity. ?? Don't Suffer in Silence Seeking support isn't a sign of weakness. Talk to someone—be it a friend, mentor, or HR. But remember, it's essential to strike a balance. Sharing too much about the toxic colleague with others can overshadow the beautiful aspects of your relationships. ?? Look After Yourself Your well-being should always be a priority. Surround yourself with positive vibes. Dive into your passions, spend quality time outdoors, or indulge in rejuvenating activities. Remember, positivity is your shield against negativity. A toxic work environment can profoundly impact your mental health, but there are steps you can take to protect yourself. By talking to someone you trust, setting boundaries, taking breaks, practising self-care, and seeking support, you can help prevent the negative effects of a toxic work environment. Remember, you can't control other people’s actions, but you can control your reactions. Choose your emotional battles wisely, invest in self-love, and build a strong support network. Maintaining your mental health in a toxic workplace is challenging, but you can survive and thrive with a thoughtful approach. I am here if you want to chat ?? #stressrelief #stressmanagement #mentalhealthawareness #anxietysupport #mentalhealth
