Representatives from PA Youth Vote came to Launchpad to talk to our students about the power of voting and their civic duty. They also led an informative session to dive deeper into the importance of participating in elections. As part of the session, students took part in an interactive activity where they stood up if certain statements applied to them. One thought-provoking question was, "Have you ever heard someone say, 'My vote doesn’t count' or 'It won’t matter if I vote'?" The discussion continued with conversations about what influences people's perceptions of voting—factors like family, social media, peers, and culture. The group emphasized why voting is critical, including reasons such as caring about issues, driving systematic changes, fostering representative democracy, and recognizing that "no vote = no voice." Students also learned about the differences between primary and general elections, how to vote, and where to find nonpartisan information on candidates. A huge thank you to Elijah J Neal, Sarah Black, Kamryn Davis, and Dy'Meir Foreman from PA Youth Vote for leading this important discussion! #launchpadphilly #payouthvote #CivicEngagement #VoteMatters

California high school students are doing their part to make sure they get to vote in November, tapping into efforts across the country to lower the voting age. In Berkeley and Oakland, this fall will be the first time 16- and 17 year-old students will be able to cast their vote for school board director after legislation was passed four years ago, says The Oaklandside. And in a small city near San Francisco, students got an amendment put on the ballot that would allow them to vote in municipal elections if passed, according to POLITICO. Youth mobilizing for the right to vote is an important feature of our democracy, as young people offer critical perspectives that help us shape the future. With initiatives like these in California, as well as the efforts of Vote16, we can create an electorate that is more representative of our country.? https://bit.ly/3X3oYlO #democracy #civicengagement #voting

I just voted. For the first time, I took stock of what a “fair and free” process felt like. In my home city, we have municipal elections ongoing. The volunteers at the voting station said turnout was much better than the last election, which is critical to supporting the institution of democracy. What struck me most was how fair, free and unobstructed the voting experience felt. It was held in an accessible location. Instructions were clear, voting booths were private, and as I watched the ballot counting machine work, every ballot was counted (admittedly I don’t know what will happen with those results). There wasn’t any pressure to vote in particular way, or for any particular candidate. Until today, I had taken this process for granted over the last 30 years. No more. The stories of voter obstruction are increasingly evident. Voter intimidation in autocracies and some democracies (now) are more prevalent. The idea that voting can cost you your dignity, your safety, or in some cases your life is not just an idea. As leaders, it is imperative that regardless of who we vote for, we insist that for as long as we’re in a democracy, everyone gets to vote freely, and their vote counts. This is what’s at stake in many of the 60 national elections that are happening around the world this year. Those of us participating on this platform must use our influence, our voices and our votes to insist our governments hold elections that have integrity. Whether we like the outcome or not. We are reminded daily of what the alternative is, and the cost to people, our communities, and our world as a whole. Please, please vote when you have the opportunity. And consider carefully how those you’re voting for see this foundational element of democracy, regardless of their policies or agenda. Our future must not be ruled by a handful of leaders committed to undermining the voice of the people. #freeelections #democracy #canada

??The power of a single vote cannot be underestimated. In a democratic society, voting is not just a right but a responsibility that shapes the direction of a nation. Here are some reasons why your vote matters: - Representation: Your vote represents your voice and opinion. It's a way to express support for a particular candidate or party and influence the outcome of an election. By casting your vote, you can contribute to the selection of representatives who align with your values and beliefs.?? - Close elections: In many elections, the margin of victory can be very narrow. A single vote can make all the difference in determining the outcome, especially in local or regional elections. History has shown several instances where races were decided by just a handful of votes.?? - Symbolic value: Casting a vote is a symbolic act that demonstrates your commitment to democratic principles and civic engagement. It shows that you are an active participant in your community and care about the decisions that affect you and your fellow citizens.?? - Influence on policies: Elected officials make decisions that impact various aspects of society, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and more. By voting, you have the opportunity to shape these policies and help create a better future for yourself and future generations.?? - Holding elected officials accountable: Voting allows you to hold elected officials accountable for their actions. By participating in elections, you have the power to choose new representatives if you are dissatisfied with the current ones. This helps ensure that elected officials remain responsive to the needs and concerns of their constituents.?? - Encouraging civic participation: When people see others exercising their right to vote, it can inspire them to do the same. The collective impact of individual votes can lead to increased civic participation and a more engaged electorate.?? In conclusion, while a single vote may seem insignificant on its own, it plays a crucial role in shaping democracy, influencing policies, and holding elected officials accountable. Every vote counts and contributes to the overall democratic process. follow Dhruv R. Dubey for more life uplifting content. Stay Tuned ?? #vote #democracy #elections #civic

The election reform movement has a lot to be proud of in 2024: We had a record number of state ballot initiatives for open primaries, ranked choice voting, and anti-gerrymandering; Washington, DC ultimately succeeded in passing open primaries; and 6.6M+ voters ultimately cast ballots in support of our vision for a more representative and functional government. We knew that passing these initiatives would be an uphill battle, but the final result was not what we'd hoped. Party elites on both sides fought tooth and nail to defeat these initiatives, and in most places, they succeeded in defending a broken status quo that benefits them at the expense of voters. I'm proud to work for an organization (Unite America) and in a movement that plays the long game. Every successful movement from history faces tremendous opposition from those in power and experiences setbacks. But we'll dust ourselves off, learn from this, and re-commit ourselves to putting voters first and fighting for a government that truly represents and works for all voters across the political spectrum. #ElectionReform #Election2024 #OpenPrimaries #RankedChoiceVoting
