Congratulations to award winning synthetic DNA producer, NunaBio. Northstar Ventures are delighted to confirm our investment of ￡400,000 into the company. The investment was the first made by the Northstar EIS Growth Fund, alongside the ERDF supported North East Innovation Fund, plus ￡410,000 from other investors. The rapidly scaling, Newcastle-based company has developed industry transforming technology to meet the growing demand for the synthesis of DNA and RNA at a scale and cost other companies cannot equal. NunaBio is uniquely placed to answer the key customer requirements of speed, scale, purity, sustainability and complexity. NunaBio is also the only company that cover all three areas of production - synthesis, assembly and amplification. The company's method of manufacture is a more sustainable option, cutting out hazardous chemical waste. Traditional production methods simply cannot keep up with global requirements. DNA is a vital component to the manufacture of RNA, rapidly becoming an important element in the fight against disease, as evidenced in the Covid-19 pandemic. World demand is only set to grow, not just in new but in emerging industries too. This makes the work that NunaBio are doing vital to the development of new therapies in the fight against diseases like cancer, as well as providing solutions to diverse challenges currently facing society such as food production and personalised medicine.
