This month marks my 10-year anniversary at Arabella Advisors, and I can hardly believe it. Today I’m sharing lessons I’ve picked up along the way during my fascinating, fast-paced, and ever-changing journey at this firm that I’ve called my professional home for 10 years. 1.?Culture changes; values remain. 2.?Raise your hand for every possible internal rotation or assignment that comes your way. Just do it. 3.?Scaling a business is equal parts fun and challenging, bold and risky, satisfying and scary, and everything in between. And it’s always worth the adventure. 4.?I still haven’t figured out a pithy way to describe what I do to family and friends and I’m okay with that. 5.?Pushing myself out of my introverted comfort zone has been a game changer. 6.?Jobs are like relationships; there needs to be balance between give and take. 7.?Discomfort and failure are the greatest teachers. 8.?“Not my job” mentality is never the right answer. 9.?Demonstrating vulnerability as a leader is not a weakness. 10. In the professional world, we often celebrate milestones like new jobs, promotions, successful deals, or completed projects. However, we rarely take a moment to honour the foundation that brought us to these achievements. Today, I want to pause to reflect and celebrate one of the most essential pillars of the journey: Hard work and the relentless attitude never to give up, no matter how difficult or impossible the situation may be. Some of the most cherished memories of my professional life have been under pressure with some of the teammates tagged below. Whether it’s sleepless nights at the client’s site for a Project Go Live or Truck fass gaya (Shipment stopped) at midnight. No matter how humble our beginnings may be (for some of us), hard work, perseverance, and constant fighting against the odds made us move ahead one step at a time to where we are. No matter where we go or which place or height we reach, that core within us will keep us grounded and, at the same time, keep us reaching new destinations and heights. Hello friends, scientists and communicators! Here is a little #mondaymotivation for you all. At CSIRO Publishing I run so many workshops and very frequently hear participants say "my English isn't good enough for academic writing" or "I'm not confident with my English." I have a confession: Despite teaching writing for a living, good spelling and grammar don't come easily to me and I've had to put in the practice. In fact the post I'm sharing comes from someone who was extremely patient with my early academic writing efforts and personally inspires me. Dr Michael Seery shares a mural from their workplace at the Centre for Academic Language and Develop at the University of Bristol: "Academic Language is no one's mother tongue". I would like to add that no one is born a good writer - there are just people that have had more practice at it! I hope this inspires you today to put aside your worries about being a "good writer", sit down and write for 15 minutes and practice writing some words on a page. Today is Father's day in Austria and during dinner my wife and I were talking about our family, some plans related to career aspirations and future. Our first child is one and a half and we are expecting the second one that will be born in few months. My wife started to say everything she has to do this week and how she was organizing herself. After the dinner we started to share the tasks for our week and when we finished she said: you see, We Are Family Managers. To be sincere, I think this is one of the best recognitions, promotion or job title that we could have ever received. And together with the "manager" there is a Father, Husband and a Mother, Wife. After our talk I started to think about the amount of people that postpone the dream of having a family or have fear of giving too much priority for it. So my question is: who are you without your job title? Which are your other dreams besides the ones related to career? There are many people that can replace you at work but inside your house you are irreplaceable.

What does it mean to build something that’s truly yours, even when the story is still unfolding? Starting my own business, Lynagh Consulting, was one of the biggest steps of my life. Almost eight years ago, I left the comfort of a secure job to build something meaningful under my own name. Why “Lynagh”? It’s more than a name to me—it’s a tribute to my family and my dad, who I lost at 33, from a DVT in London Heathrow Airport, on his return from an amazing fishing holiday to Argentina. ?He was a dreamer, an adventurer, someone who followed his heart. So, the name Lynagh stands for dreaming big; caring deeply; pushing boundaries; thinking outside the box (in fact removing the box); and always going the extra mile. I wanted those qualities to define my work and what my business stands for. So, creating a name for my business was an easy decision then as I wanted my services to be known for these offerings. As I look back on these eight years, I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with amazing people and teams across these islands and been supported by amazing people too esp the hubster. I’ve learned some key lessons along the way: ? Pay attention to what catches your attention; it’s all data that can help you understand yourself and others. ? Embrace being “imperfectly perfect” (as Brené Brown says). ? Trust your instincts—they’re often right. ? Be kind to yourself (still a work in progress for me). ? Always think outside the box—better yet, beyond a whole building of boxes! ? Relearn as often as needed. ? Shift your perspective by asking yourself different questions an old favourite one of mine is “What would my 60-year-old self say now?” Today, I’m grateful to be living out my values every day, knowing that what I do makes a difference. #blessed #makingadifference #birthday

Last weekend was a celebration to remember—the NUMSA Dinner themed O????E????, marking the end of my journey as the first 2nd Vice President of NUMSA. It was a night filled with so many emotions: joy, gratitude, and a touch of bittersweet reflection. Handing over my responsibilities felt like experiencing a burst of flavors—just like biting into a kiwi. T?E KI?I ?O?E?T ?? The first time I tried a kiwi, I didn’t know what to expect. Its fuzzy exterior seemed unusual, but when I took that first bite, I was greeted by a mix of sweetness and tanginess—a surprising combination that left a lasting impression. My time as 2nd Vice President was much like that kiwi. It started with uncertainty, stepping into a role filled with responsibilities I wasn’t sure I was ready for. ?????? ???? ?? ???????????????? ?????? ????????????????????, ???????? ????????????—?????????????? ?????????? ???? ??????????????????—?????????? ???????????? ???? ????????????, ????????????????????, ?????? ?????????????????? ???? ?????? ??????????????????e ?????????????? ???? ?????????????? ?? Looking back, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. This role taught me about leadership, teamwork, and the power of serving others. From coordinating events to supporting NUMSites, every experience left a mark. The evening was even more special as I was honoured with the ???????? ???????? ???????????? ?????????? ?????? ?? ?????????????????????? ???? ????????????????????. These weren’t just accolades—they were reminders of the incredible people I worked with and the impact we made together. ???? ?????? ???????????????????? ??? As I close this chapter, my dad’s words echo in my heart: “???????????????????? ?????????? ?????????????????? ???? ??????; ????’?? ???? ?????? ??????.” To everyone reading this, I ask: ???????? ?????? ???????? ???????? ??????????????? The ones that start with hesitation but end in growth and fulfilment? Let’s embrace those moments, celebrate our progress, and look ahead with hope.
