On this, our national day.. a day that should be about unity and celebration, I feel saddened, yet hopeful and confident for the future. I also feel angry. Saddened at the othering, blame and shutting down of others’ voices. Hopeful when I see those who are standing for peace and unity. And confident because we are continuing to show up for the conversation. But my main feeling is anger.. that we are allowing ourselves to be divided.. yet again. Have we learnt nothing? To have to pick a side. To believe that there is good and bad, right and wrong. It is never that simple. So I’m still wondering… How do we create a space where we can all communicate our feelings and needs clearly? How can we really listen and hear each other? How do we honour our pasts.. and remember the majority of us have many branches on our tree.. and stand strongly in our own cultures and uniqueness? And most importantly… How do we evolve, bring the best of ourselves and come together as one in this beautiful country?

Inspiration and Leadership comes in many forms...

Amazing insights, Simon Sinek! Discovering one's 'why' and then finding the will and courage to share it for the betterment of others is indeed a profound realization. It's not only indicative of personal growth but also an embodiment of service-oriented leadership. Invoking massive positive transformations in others' lives, aiding them in making confident decisions - aren't these the impacts of understanding our purpose, our 'why', and responsibly employing it for creating value? Service, as he has beautifully expressed, lies at the heart of gifts. If we hold a unique ability — a gift — and fail to share, aren’t we perhaps not harnessing its full potential? After all, the beauty of a gift becomes more apparent when it is used for the benefit of others. His words bring to light this essential aspect — our 'why', our gifts, are not merely for self-exploration or self-satisfaction. They have a far greater role in creating a ripple effect of positivity, growth, and transformation in the world around us. A truly thought-provoking and inspiring post! As executive recruiters, we often focus intensely on candidates' skills, experience, and past achievements. Of course, these are crucial factors in assessing fit for a given role. However, Simon Sinek wisely reminds us that people ultimately make decisions based on why we do what we do. Our candidates don't simply want to know what they'll be doing day-to-day or even how much they'll earn. They want purpose. They want to feel like their work has meaning and makes an impact. As Sinek puts it, they want to buy into why we as recruiters and our client organizations do what we do. “People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it.” This quote challenges me to reflect on my own why as a recruiter. Fundamentally, I believe bringing the right people together to tackle meaningful challenges changes the world for the better. When I take the time to connect with candidates about shared goals and values versus simply discussing their resumes, magic happens. These interactions are infinitely more inspiring for all involved. My hope is that we as recruiters inspire both our candidates and our clients by always coming back to why. The work we do matters so much more when we connect on this deeper level. If we never lose sight of our fundamental why — our vision for a better future — I believe we'll also never lose sight of the passion and talent that fuels meaningful progress. My challenge to all my fellow recruiting colleagues is to lead with and listen with why.
