If you’d asked me that question 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have seen the contribution music makes to children’s lives. But since then, I have witnessed the amazing work that Music Masters is doing and the opportunity they provide to children. Music Masters’ vision is to create a world where every child has access to the transformative power of music. Where children are empowered through music to realise their personal and creative potential, supported by pro-active teachers, diverse role models and a truly inclusive music sector. They provide access to high-quality music education from early years to young adulthood, focussing on UK communities facing systemic inequality or disadvantage. Class, income and social relationships are sadly still indicators for success in classical music, and instrument learning. BBC Young Musicians '24 is something to be celebrated, but it's also a frustratingly familiar picture of the class ceiling. However, there are some clear answers to this problem. ?? Nationwide access to excellent music education, for children of every background. ?? Create clear, accessible paths for children to progress their education, if they so choose. ?? We often dream of an idealistic and happy life on our planet, in our country, and in our city, but we always sigh and think that it is a utopia. And none of us seems willing to take action to make this dream a reality! But JazzYYC does! JazzYYC is not just another organization. It's not about making money. It's not about staging fancy concerts for the elite. JazzYYC is all about the young generation of Calgary! This is the core mission of the organization – supporting the youth of Calgary, the future of our city. Across Canada, JazzYYC stands out as the only jazz society that not only organizes festivals but also helps the younger generation access jazz music education. I couldn't find another such organization. Today, sustainability is a buzzword. Everyone claims to be sustainable, even tobacco companies... But true sustainability is actually very rare in any industry. JazzYYC is an excellent example of what sustainability can look like. One model we use at JazzYYC is to organize events in cafes, jazz clubs, and other venues in Calgary, allowing ALL Calgarians to listen to jazz - many of our events are free of charge. Thus, even those who can't afford tickets to fancy concerts can attend jazz concerts, and local small businesses have more clients and more money. We allow young jazz musicians to play alongside big names in the Calgary jazz scene in front of an audience. Isn't this wonderful? Isn't this something truly different? Isn't this real care for the future generation and the future of our community? You can support this great thing by participating in our 50/50 raffle. Currently, we've raised over 1700 CAD. More and more European festivals sign up to help support Music Saves Ukraine, but not from the UK. The festival summer in Europe is coming to an end. In the third year of the full-scale invasion, support for Ukraine in the European music industry remains high, and more and more European festivals are joining in to help by directing their social action and proceeds to the initiative of the Ukrainian UAME - Ukrainian Association of Music Events - Music Saves Ukraine. Sadly this support has yet to be evidenced from UK festivals. In 2025 let's get the UK industry involved. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the team has worked with 40 festivals and numerous large-scale music events. During this time, the initiative has raised over €555,000 for humanitarian needs in Ukraine. How does it work? How are Ukrainian artists getting to the international stages? Once again drawing attention to this because they are so close to meeting their match funding requirement now... Any alumni of Flakefleet Primary School in here? Or a company in need of a good cause to get behind? Those who have followed the mighty Flakefleet's adventures over recent years will have seen their run to the Britain's Got Talent final including a Golden Buzzer and their tilt at Xmas number 1! The point, of course, is to show that kids that you should hashtag #daretodream and that anything is possible regardless of your background. Their next big adventure is to have a music festival on their school field. They did this successful pre-pandemic and it's time for the return. The simple idea is to provide the festival experience for those families without the budget to travel to other festivals and once again show the kids that anything is possible.
