One of the top questions I get is this double-whammy: “How do we know we’re ready to launch our (first) product?” I dug into this recently with a group of inspiring The Female Founder Collective founders at my The Gearworks Group “Operations Office Hours” .? It's a Double-Whammy Question because it usually comes disguised as one of the following questions.... "We’ve been preparing to launch our Beta for a while, and... (insert literally any question here) " ???? "Do you think it's better to get out there with a product that isn't perfect, amend it as you go, or hold off until it's the best it can be? I am worried that if it's not perfect, we could lose customers, but if we keep refining, it could take another year, and we also might miss the opportunity to be the first to market with this solution..." Sound familiar? Without spilling details from the amazing companies in the room, here’s a taste of our conversation: ?? FIRST PRODUCT LAUNCH READINESS: To gauge your readiness to launch, start by defining your primary goal. Is it to: ● Get a product on market ASAP? ● Learn from a specific customer segment? ● Test and smooth out your operations before scaling up? ● Accomplish a full manufacturing trial to catch issues before spending more $? Keep the focus on that goal, then minimize distractions and maximize what you can learn from the launch and its halo. Reminder that launches are about loving forward movement. Yes, of course, you gotta de-risk & focus. But loving learning – and loving acquiring increasingly relevant information – is what drives (1) the next-right-decision and also (2) your acceleration toward ??the Big Goal. ??
