The Accidental Mountain Dew Legend: Willie's the Hillbilly's Wild Ride Willie Stumpjumper chugged a case of Mountain Dew while jump-starting his cousin's lawnmower. The caffeine explosion launched him 20 feet into the air, landing perfectly on a broken tractor he instantly rewired. Mountain Dew executives, driving by, witnessed the spectacle. "We need this man," the marketing director whispered. Billboards soon featured Willie mid-leap, can in hand, with the tagline: "Dew or Die!" His gap-toothed grin transformed him from local legend to national icon. Sometimes, greatness is just one caffeine-powered explosion away. #BrandInnovation #MarketingDisruption #UnconventionalBranding #ConsumerEngagement #BrandStorytelling #MarketingStrategy #ViralMarketing #MountainDew

Looking forward to Tuesday night's Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl between The University of Memphis Tigers and West Virginia University Mountaineers. Get ready for tonight's game with the pregame press conference featuring both teams! #SpeakingTip: I've emceed this presser for years and, each time, I am meeting the head coaches, players and staff minutes before we meet the media. I've always found it incredibly helpful to cover what we're going to do in a five-minute run-of-show download before we go live. This download encompasses: -How we'll open the presser: introductions, house rules, etc. -Who will sit where: this is all intentional...for the most part -Will there be an opening statement? Usually yes. -Name pronunciations. I've mangled more names than you can imagine. -Any items off the table that we don't want to cover. Usually never an issue but you never know. This is helpful for the presser participants walking into a new environment to understand how this thing will go. We always ask for media to identify themselves. What's funny is that during the 2024 presser, Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield had fun with a reporter (whom he knew) when he didn't identify himself. Coach Silverfield asked the reporter to do so. It was a fun, lighthearted moment. I think it's great to have funny, lighthearted moments in media events when appropriate. It showcases participants' personalities. As for why we ask media to identify themselves: when you stream a press conference, it's helpful for the viewers to understand who is asking the question.

A large pod of dolphins swam by, looking for breakfast, just as I finished this video. It was a gorgeous morning at the beach, and a girl on her way to work pulled up and ran onto the beach to look at the dolphins. She said to me: "I'm on my way to work and already I feel so fulfilled." That's the kind of morning it was. But I digress... Here are 4 things to focus on for the year ahead, if this year has been less than you hoped for and you need to shake things up: - your numbers will tell a story about what's going on in your business - do you need to go back to marketing 101? - is it time to reassess your team? - are you optimising the value you deliver clients and customers? #newyearplans #7percentclub #marketing101 #customerservice #clientengagement #businessdeepdive #rightpeople #customervalue

I noticed the following John Lewis advert on TV last night and it looks like they are looking to rejuvenate the 'Never knowingly undersold' strapline/brand positioning ahead of its 100th anniversary next year. I thought they had retired the concept a couple of years ago, so this is an interesting move but one that will give them something to really leverage in the super-competitive retail sector. What's everyone's thoughts? #Marketing #TVAd #BrandPositioning #Advertising https://lnkd.in/e33SBvep

Nostalgia campaigns are more than a trip down memory lane; it’s a powerful way to stay culturally relevant when done authentically. It’s about giving a gift and being community-minded first. Ore-Ida (tater tots) has given millennials and Napoleon Dynamite fans a sweet video this week. Their new campaign features Jon Heder reprising his role as Napoleon, complete with his iconic Moon Boots and a new pair of pants with a Tot Crush-Proof pocket. This campaign is steeped in nostalgia, thanks to Kraft Heinz in-house agency, The Kitchen North America, and the stakeholders at Ore-Ida who greenlit this idea. https://lnkd.in/gNUhuYxV I want to personally thank everyone who made this happen, including Aaron Ruell (Kip Dynamite) for directing it. Seeing the new spots felt like reconnecting with an old high school friend. I remember the trailers for Napoleon Dynamite on MTV and experiencing that unique, awkwardly beautiful style of humor for the first time. I hope this campaign sells a lot of tots and fuels more creative work. At Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity this week, McDonald's CFO Ian Borden spoke about the positive outcomes (revenue) when McDonald's immerses itself in culture. My take is that contributing to culture authentically benefits both brands and collaborators. Nostalgia, when tapped into genuinely, serves as a bridge to cultural relevance, allowing brands to connect deeply with their audience by honoring shared memories and experiences. #NostalgiaMarketing #MarketingCampaign #NapoleonDynamite

Today is Day 3 of our series of excellent words that we feel should be released from the confines of the past as they are perfect for the modern world. Today we are talking about: 'Whiffle’ (16th century): to hover indecisively over a decision, such as whether to turn the heating on in July. We all whiffle at times. Some of us more than others. Sometimes when people are whifflers it is because they don’t have all the facts to hand, or because they can’t quite work out the impact of doing the thing that they are whiffling about. Having the right information to hand will help those whifflers land on a decision. By thinking about the strengths and weaknesses of something, listing all the things that could happen if or when, you can significantly reduce the level of whiffling. Of course it depends very much on what the decision is about. If you are debating where to have your next team away day, you’ll need to take a lot into consideration before your whiffling comes to an end. On the other hand, if you spot a whiffler whiffling at the festive buffet, unsure whether to have a ham sandwich or a cheese one, you might just need to step up with a suggestion or some direct guidance for the whiffler (the answer is cheese of course!). Are you a whiffler?
