UNC-Charlotte and LNC recently partnered to provide hands-on experience for pre-service teachers. Attracting students to the education field is a top priority for not only NC but our nation. Thank you, Dr. Adam Myers, Dr. Graham, and LNC teachers, for making this possible and we encourage these education students to learn why LNC is a great place to work once they graduate!

Excellent progress in this field
On the 13th of September 2024, Adult Continuing Education (ACE), in partnership with the School of Education, welcomed the inaugural cohort of the Postgraduate Diploma in Further, Adult and Community Education (PDFACE) programme to the college. For the first time, in the history of UCC and teacher education provision in Cork, we are providing a FET teacher qualification for all those practitioners working with adult learners across the diverse voluntary and statutory providers in our community. We honour the seminal work of Bertram Windle, Alfred O’Rahilly and so many women and men who have worked with adult learners over the years, and we look forward to supporting the further professionalization of adult educators into the future!?

(These opinions are my own) I recently had the opportunity to participate in two impactful education conferences: Yes.Every.Kid’s Stronger Together Denver Cohort and ExcelinEd’s ESA Administrators Network in Minneapolis. These experiences caused me to reflect on school accountability within our education system, particularly in relation to market-based approaches. I find myself aligned with ExcelinEd’s CEO, @Patricia Levesque who borrowed a line from her friend 50CAN’s president Derrell Bradford by stating, “you regulate a monopoly different than a market.” Levesque points out that accountability assessments are crucial for traditional public schools due to their monopoly status, whereas market-driven education relies on parental choice as a robust accountability measure. (Regulating Public, Private Schools: Parental Choice Is The Key (excelined.org)?I particularly value ExcelinEd’s A-F accountability framework for its clarity in assessing school performance, which is essential for both schools and families. (ExcelinEd.PolicyToolkit.AFSchoolGrading.ModelPolicy.2019.pdf)??? As I continue my residency at ExcelinEd, I look forward to exploring these nuances further and continuing my development as an education policy leader.

This month, we are talking about education in our ?????????????? conversation series. At NPI, we understand the interest in having college-educated officers, but that may not always be attainable. Does having a college degree add value to officers on the job? In a 2017 study conducted by NPI in partnership with California State University's Fullerton Center for Public Policy, researchers examined the role of higher education in policing. Researchers spoke to 958 agencies representing all 50 states, making the project the largest and most comprehensive non-governmental study ever done on this topic. Another year, another successful year of post-secondary pathways being declared and solidified. As I often say this is not only hard work but it's also "heart work". #EducateonPurpose #LiveonPurpose #CollegeAccess #BlackMaleEducator #ElevateBlackLeaders
On May 21, 2024, YES Prep Public Schools celebrated the best day of the year—Senior Signing Day! 1,631 seniors from 14 secondary campuses took the stage to declare their post-secondary plans, cheered on by over 8,000 YES Prep students, faculty, staff, families, alumni and donors at the University of Houston's Fertitta Center. This year was extra special as we welcomed the founding class of YES Prep Northline Secondary Revolutionaries to the stage for the first time. Congratulations, Class of 2024! Public K-12 is often considered a public good. Why not higher education? Thx to Yolanda Watson Spiva and CCA for continuing the discussion. How do we frame our conversations around this ‘public good?’ Living and working a state focused on economic and workforce development, I see a pretty clear linkage between the value of post sec as a public good and the continued identification and development of more opps for all South Carolinians. Instead of why … ask why not?
"To restore public trust in higher education — which can increase participation in our democracy and improve civic culture — we must reframe higher education as a public good." - CCA President Yolanda Watson Spiva, Ph.D., BCC. Dr. Watson Spiva has been in Indianapolis today, presenting and meeting with higher education and policy leaders from across the country as part of the Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement Coalition, of which CCA is a lead partner. #CCADoesTheWork

How much do we actually do that’s the main concern. In colleges where we talk about DEAIB, are we actually doing everything or at least the basic things to promote, protect and practice it? Checking boxes just for the sake of saving face won’t make any public college a DEAIB focused one, it needs real practice. And that practice should be in all aspects. A good read, for anyone working in Education, specially Higher Education. https://lnkd.in/guHWhAB9
