The role of case management in homeless service provision is absolutely crucial. If we are to create seamless journeys for individuals that actually "feel" seamless then we need to co - produce. ?? A No Wrong Door Approach is fundamental to ensuring individuals are not re- traumatised as they are bounced across a fragmented system many times over. Last year, our Day Center saw an average of 128 people per day. In 2024, that number has risen even higher. So far, we're averaging 152 per day, reaching a record high of 209. Today, is Youth Homelessness Matters Day. On average there are 3000 young people aged 12- 25 years experiencing homelessness in the Northern Territory on any given night. That's enough to fill 75 school buses! Under the Barkly Regional Deal signed on 13 April 2019, the Northern Territory Government committed $3 million for ‘Crisis Youth Support - Safe Places and Accommodation’. We need to prioritise the needs of youth experiencing homelessness and create a community where every young person has a safe place to call home. Over the last five years there has been plenty of meetings behind closed doors with little transparency about the status of this $3 million initiative. The Barkly Regional Deal was designed to chart a better future for our young people and that’s why an independent review of the Regional Deal governance structure needs to be undertaken!

Low numbers at Your Own Place CIC have always been a little niggle of mine. We're a small organisation and whilst some funders still insist on outputs (bums on seats) as evidence of impact, it really feels like we're winning the outcomes war. As a homelessness prevention organisation, it's very much quality and impact over bums on seats. That said, without bums on seats, there is no impact. So these modest numbers across our intervention types tell just the vital beginning of our impact story.
