I had a great time at the Connected Places Catapult in London on Wednesday pitching a collaborative business case looking at facilitating granular freight and commuter passengers as a supplementary, sustainable income stream to support the preservation of these important pieces of British industrial history. Box Tube Ltd, together with Universal Signalling and Cambridge Electric Transport have developed a compelling case for Granular freight to be taken via heritage railways, when heritage locomotives are not running, into centers of population. BoxTube can rapidly load the freight in just 11 seconds, meaning freight and passengers can share vehicles and all stations on a line can be accessed. Universal Signalling's unique, low cost digital signalling will support the location accuracy and safety requirements and then Cambridge Electric Transport's Citipod battery assisted quadricycle can take care of last mile delivery. Our goal is to be completely sustainable, dramatically reducing emissions and congestion; and also be sympathetic to the heritage feel of the railways, creating revenue to ensure they can thrive.
