Did you know that the first Coachella was considered such a "failure" that they couldn't afford to do it a second year? It would take them two whole years to rebound the almost $1,000,000 lost and be able to put the event back on. Coachella's story is a great example of why being willing to fail is a superpower. Being willing to fail means you are more likely to think outside of the box. One great example of this is how Coachella originally started in October. It was around summer/fall - the exact time all the other big festivals take place. But that time of year was so hot in Indio that the stage equipment was literally melting. So out of necessity, they decided to move Coachella to April to beat the summer heat. A decision that felt "out of the box" for industry standard. This became such a great business decision, for many reasons. Coachella would become so popular that they would expand the experience to two weekends in 2012. Coachella's story is such a great reminder that the most successful people are often the ones who fail the most. That is exactly why they "succeed". Be willing to adapt and think outside of the box, even when it goes against industry standard. Because then YOU will become industry standard and not the other way around. Young people have it all wrong... ? Well, some of them anyway. Chris Ferris made a great point in the latest episode of Property Now about how we are living in a world of instant gratification and short-term goals. ? There has never been a better time to be alive, opportunity is all around us but it seems like so many people complain or question why they feel so far behind their peers when they have lived their lives chasing short-term pleasures without giving their future a second thought. ? I believe that comparing yourself to others is part of the human experience, especially with our social media feeds full of people’s highlight reels. ? Do you see that friend's Instagram story flaunting their new car or 8th investment property and get sad about how unfair life is and how it is so hard for you? ? Or do you make a plan, change your behavior, and start working towards your dream life (whatever that looks like for you) even if that means sacrificing in the short term? ? We all compare ourselves to those around us and will continue to do it, the important thing is how you decide to act after making those comparisons. ?
